Responsibilities:

UR Home Healthcare Director, Advancement is the key fundraiser in support of University of Rochester Medicine Home Healthcare (Home Healthcare), which since 1919 has been a regional leader in proving high quality, compassionate health care in the comfort and convenience of home. Home Healthcare programs include Medicare-certified home health care covering seven counties, Meals On Wheels, palliative and hospice care programs, pediatric and perinatal care, home infusion, in-home technology, and other services to provide nursing, therapy, and personal care support.
The Director will act as a strategic fundraising partner with the CEO of Home Healthcare and is responsible for achieving fundraising objectives established by the URochester Medicine Advancement team and the CEO of Home Healthcare. The Director will develop and implement a strategic, comprehensive development program, soliciting individuals, organizations, foundations and corporations. Management of the Home Healthcare Foundation requires professional fundraising techniques and approaches, including major giving, annual giving, special events fundraising, grant writing, planned giving, and volunteer management. The Director will lead efforts to identify, cultivate, and solicit major gifts from the grateful patients and/or families treated by Home Healthcare.
The Director will focus on building a robust major gift and leadership annual giving pipeline with a high volume of donor meetings, solicitations and gifts closed. In addition, the Director will manage a portfolio of approximately 100 major gift prospects to cultivate, solicit, and steward and will be a role model through their activity level with the primary objectives:
To further strengthen existing relationships between Home Healthcare and its major donors.
To establish and strengthen relationships with newly identified major gift donor prospects for Home Healthcare.
To engage with community members with the goal of increasing the level of philanthropic investment in Home Healthcare
The Director will report to the Assistant Vice President for Clinical, Research, and Hospital Programs Advancement and will work closely with the CEO of URochester Medicine Home Healthcare and the Home Healthcare executive team on all matters relating to fundraising priorities and Foundation management. They will serve as the Advancement liaison to the Home Healthcare Board of Directors and as the primary staff support for the Home Healthcare Foundation Board, including collaboration with the Board Chair and the Home Healthcare CEO to set the agenda, prepare presentations and materials.
The Director will also serve as the leader of the Home Healthcare Foundation and oversee and manage all aspects of the Foundation's operations. The Director will work closely with Home Healthcare finance, leadership, and fund contacts to ensure the Foundation resources are maximized to benefit the mission of Home Healthcare. The Director will supervise the Advancement Associate for Home Healthcare, and as such will ensure the day-to-day management of Foundation operations and all related logistics are timely, efficient and of the highest quality.
The Director is expected to be a full and active member of the broader URochester Advancement team-- participating in strategy and planning, contributing their ideas and counsel particularly as they relate to programs within Home Healthcare.
The Director is expected to demonstrate continuous commitment to the University of Rochester Advancement Values.
Travel on behalf of the University may be required for this position.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive, strategic fundraising program for URochester Medicine Home Healthcare to increase the number of significant gifts ($50,000+) from the designated prospect pool.
  • Effectively collaborate with Home Healthcare and URochester Medicine leadership, faculty and key volunteers to identify, cultivate, solicit and steward major gift prospects and donors. Works with staff and faculty partners to identify new, potential patient and family donors.
  • Work in conjunction with URochester Advancement teams and colleagues to maximize philanthropic revenue for Home Healthcare by monitoring and tracking funds for Home Healthcare, providing data and other relevant information as needed to colleagues. Maintains frequent and open internal communication across all areas of Advancement.
  • Manage appropriate corporate and foundation relationships, including the submission of approximately 7-10 grant requests and corporate proposals per year on behalf of Home Healthcare. Regularly consults with Advancement's Foundation Relations and Corporate Business Engagement teams.
  • Oversee the Home Healthcare Foundation staff (one Development Associate) and related activities, to include managing the Foundation Board, collaborating with the Home Healthcare leadership group (i.e. finance), and working closely with the Home Healthcare Board and leadership to identify priority funding opportunities to be supported with Foundation resources.
  • Oversee all special activities while working closely with the URochester Medicine Constituent Engagement team and identified partners. Ensure event revenue goals are met and achieved, committee is empowered and active, and the events remain important community building engagement opportunities.
  • Whether individually or in cooperation with support staff, continuously update the prospect management database with information related to donor strategies, contacts and results.

MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's Degree required
  • Master's Degree preferred
  • A minimum of 7 years of proven major gifts fundraising experience, preferably within higher education, academic medicine, and/or healthcare required.
  • Or equivalent combination of education and experience

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills required
  • Demonstrated experience cultivating and soliciting prospects capable of gifts at the $50k+ level, particularly at a highly sophisticated and matrixed organization required
  • Broad knowledge of the gift cycle: (1) to initiate contacts with potential donors; (2) to develop appropriate cultivation strategies for them, including working with volunteers and senior university administrators; (3) to move potential donors in an appropriate and timely fashion toward gift solicitation and closure; (4) to make gift solicitations when appropriate; (5) to maintain stewardship contacts with donors required
  • Leadership and direct management experience; ability to lead and influence in a complex environment required.
  • Experience with Salesforce CRM or comparable platform required
