What are remote HEDIS jobs?

Remote HEDIS jobs allow you to work from home to review and process medical records for the Healthcare Effectiveness Data and Information Set (HEDIS). HEDIS is an industry measurement plan that evaluates factors like access to care, the effectiveness of care, and experience of care to help healthcare facilities improve their daily operations. Remote HEDIS positions may involve gathering offsite data to enter into the system or auditing existing data to verify its accuracy. HEDIS data submissions are made annually, but data collection and verification is done throughout the year so companies can ensure the information is ready to submit on-time. In a virtual HEDIS job, you may work for a single medical office or provide support for multiple healthcare facilities.

What are remote HEDIS jobs?

Remote HEDIS jobs involve working with the Healthcare Effectiveness Data and Information Set (HEDIS) from a remote location, typically in roles such as abstractors, reviewers, or coordinators. Professionals in these positions collect, review, and analyze health care data to ensure compliance with quality measures used by health plans and providers. These jobs often require familiarity with medical records, coding, and healthcare regulations. Remote HEDIS roles offer flexibility and are in demand during the annual HEDIS reporting season, usually requiring strong attention to detail and computer proficiency.

What are some common challenges faced by remote HEDIS professionals, and how can they be managed?

Remote HEDIS professionals often encounter challenges such as managing large volumes of medical records, ensuring data accuracy, and navigating various electronic health record (EHR) systems. Working remotely can also require strong time management and self-motivation, as well as clear communication with team members and providers. To address these challenges, it's helpful to establish a structured daily routine, utilize secure and reliable technology, and participate in regular virtual meetings to stay aligned with team goals and updates.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote HEDIS abstractor, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote HEDIS Abstractor, you need a strong background in healthcare data abstraction, knowledge of HEDIS measures, and experience with medical records, often supported by an RN, LPN, or similar clinical credential. Familiarity with HEDIS-specific software, electronic health records (EHRs), and data management systems is typically required. Attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and effective communication are vital soft skills for ensuring accuracy and collaborating with remote teams. These skills ensure reliable data collection and reporting, which are essential for healthcare quality improvement and regulatory compliance.

Job description

Epic Reporting Analyst

Duration: Long Term
Location: Remote
Certifications: Epic Caboodle Certification (Clarity or Caboodle)

We just had an Epic reporting hire. (See resume attached for example)

Epic Reporting Analyst with Epic Cogito (Clarity/Caboodle), advanced SQL, My Panel Metrics (MPMs), Healthy Planet, HEDIS, care gap reporting, SlicerDicer, Radar Dashboards, and provider-facing population health reporting experience.

In addition to the traditional Clarity/Caboodle reporting background we have been providing, they would now like to focus on candidates that have experience building MPMs (My Panel Metrics) within Epic.

MPMs are provider-facing operational and quality metrics used heavily within population health and value-based care environments. These metrics to help providers track things like care gaps, patient quality measures, preventative care compliance, panel performance, and other operational KPIs directly within Epic.

MUST HAVES:

  • 4-7+ years of Epic reporting experience
  • Strong Epic Cogito experience (Clarity and/or Caboodle)
  • Advanced SQL skills
  • Experience building/supporting My Panel Metrics (MPMs) OR provider-facing operational reporting
  • Experience with population health, Healthy Planet, HEDIS, care gaps, or quality metrics
  • Experience with SlicerDicer
  • Ability to work independently in a high-volume reporting environment

WHAT TO LOOK FOR: Strong candidates will usually mention:

  • MPMs
  • Population Health
  • Healthy Planet
  • Care Gap Reporting
  • HEDIS
  • Provider Metrics
  • Cogito
  • Radar Dashboards
  • Reporting Workbench
  • Provider operational reporting

Candidates that are purely backend SQL/report writers without provider-facing reporting or population health experience will likely not be strong fits for this updated direction.

Based on my research......the ideal candidate will likely have a combination of:

  • Epic Clarity/Caboodle experience
  • Cogito or Healthy Planet exposure
  • Population health or provider metrics experience
  • Experience supporting provider-facing reporting and operational dashboards

We should absolutely revisit candidates that have already been submitted or screened and ask additional questions around MPM exposure, provider metrics, and population health reporting experience.

A few qualifying questions you could use...

  • Have you worked with My Panel Metrics (MPMs) in Epic? MOST IMPORTANT
  • What types of provider or population health metrics have you supported?
  • Were the dashboards/reporting provider-facing?
  • Did you work with Healthy Planet, Cogito, Radar, or Reporting Workbench?
  • Have you supported care gap, HEDIS, or quality measure reporting?

This role is still highly technical and requires strong Epic reporting experience, but the ideal candidate will also understand the clinical/business side of provider metrics and population health reporting.
