What is remote healthcare informatics?

Remote healthcare informatics is the field that focuses on managing and analyzing health information using technology, often from a remote or offsite location. Professionals in this area use electronic health records, telemedicine tools, and data analytics to improve patient care, streamline operations, and support clinical decision-making. This role is vital for connecting healthcare providers and patients virtually, ensuring data accuracy, security, and accessibility. Remote healthcare informatics specialists work closely with IT teams, clinicians, and administrators to optimize the use of health information systems.

What is a remote healthcare informatics job?

In a remote healthcare informatics job, you use software to organize, maintain, and pull useful information from medical records. In this role, you may conduct an analysis of illness trends and treatment results, answer questions for your client, or use online sources to add information to records. Some healthcare informatics jobs also focus on training or consulting—in these positions, you may instead teach people how to use healthcare informatics systems and make sure they know how to follow patient privacy regulations. While this remote job is usually done from home, it can also be done from a healthcare facility to coordinate with remote caregivers.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote healthcare informatics specialist?

To thrive as a Remote Healthcare Informatics Specialist, you need a solid background in health information management, data analysis, and healthcare systems, typically supported by a relevant degree or certification such as RHIA or CAHIMS. Familiarity with electronic health records (EHRs), health information exchange (HIE) platforms, and data analytics tools like SQL or Tableau is important. Strong communication, problem-solving, and attention to detail are critical soft skills for translating clinical needs into technical solutions and collaborating with cross-functional teams. These abilities ensure the secure, accurate, and efficient management of healthcare data, supporting better patient outcomes and organizational efficiency.

How does a remote healthcare informatics specialist typically collaborate with clinical and IT teams?

Remote healthcare informatics specialists often bridge the gap between clinical staff and IT departments by facilitating virtual meetings, managing electronic health record (EHR) optimization projects, and translating clinical needs into technical solutions. They regularly use collaboration tools to communicate updates, gather requirements, and troubleshoot issues. Effective teamwork and clear communication are essential, as most interactions are virtual and require proactive engagement to ensure all stakeholders are aligned and informed.

About Visana Health

Visana Health is an innovative virtual women's health clinic offering comprehensive clinical care and holistic support for women. We are redesigning women's healthcare by bringing a patient-centered human touch to care for complex conditions such as chronic pelvic pain, endometriosis, uterine fibroids, heavy menstrual bleeding, and more.

How Visana Works:

  • A trauma-informed approach to care: we listen more than we speak, we validate our patient's experience, and we believe what they tell us
  • Striking a patient-centered balance between evidence-based care, patient preferences (shared decision making) and values, and investment in long-term patient outcomes
  • A commitment to excellence in our delivery of care, using the best relatable communication strategies, comprehensive documentation in the patient chart, and extensive care coordination to support the patient's on-going care needs.
  • Applying the most recent and compelling evidence to our treatment plans. That means using the data and evidence that is most beneficial to women and has the most impact on their health.
  • A collaborative care team that supports each other like a group practice and helps build more robust evidence-based models constantly learning from each other, closing the knowledge gaps, and working together to deliver the best care using the talents each provider brings independently and collectively.

Your Impact

  • Direct patient care in virtual synchronous clinic visits, during clinic hours which are M-F 7am to 11 pm EST and Sat 7am to 8pm EST.
  • Timely patient follow-up work including, but not limited to, medical leadership case consults, responding to patient messages or making phone calls to patients when required,
  • Reviewing test results and ensuring proper patient notification in compliance with practice standards timelines,
  • Chart note documentation and completed billing within 24 hours of the patient visit.
  • Participation in weekly clinical meetings.
  • Participate in a group practice style environment, offering guidance and support as your expertise allows.
  • Work closely and collaborate with Dr. Barbara Levy, our CMO.

Requirements:

What You’ll Need

  • Board-Certified MD - with experience in Women's Health
  • Willingness to serve as a collaborating physician of record for Nurse Practitioners
  • Commitment to maintaining active licensure in good standing for the duration of the agreement
  • Commitment to 12 hrs a week in the clinic.

What Visana Offers

  • Compensation: $120-150/hour paid monthly
  • 100% remote role: tele-health visits that emphasize ample time to address the patients' needs
  • Flexible schedule: Set the hours that work for you with evening and weekend hours desired
  • Malpractice Insurance: Comprehensive coverage provided
  • Weekly clinical meetings: will attend and participate in the medical training and support the collaborative practice environment
  • Stability: Our providers stay with us long term, we have had a 71% retention rate since 2023 and 89% since 2025.
  • Work with the best: From our CMO Dr. Levy to our collaborating physicians - we only hire the best and are excited to have the best in Women’s Health continue to join us!

Even if you don’t necessarily check every box outlined in the following requirements, we want people of color, gender non-conforming, those in the LGBTQ+ communities, and all those that consider themselves less represented in healthcare to apply because we understand that diversity in our provider team strengthens our organization and helps provide exceptional care to our patients.

If you are unsure, please apply anyway! We know how important it is not only to include, but to actively seek out diverse opinions and voices.
