Job description

We are seeking an experienced Clinical Documentation Integrity (CDI) Specialist I to support accurate clinical documentation, coding integrity, and regulatory compliance in a 100% remote environment. The ideal candidate will review inpatient medical records, identify documentation improvement opportunities, collaborate with providers and coding teams, and ensure accurate representation of patient severity of illness, risk of mortality, and quality of care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review inpatient medical records concurrently and retrospectively to ensure accurate clinical documentation and coding.
  • Identify documentation gaps and opportunities to improve severity of illness, risk of mortality, and quality reporting.
  • Validate medical necessity and support accurate ICD coding and billing practices.
  • Collaborate with physicians, coders, case managers, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to improve documentation quality.
  • Educate providers on clinical documentation best practices and regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with federal and state regulations, coding guidelines, and documentation standards.
  • Analyze clinical records using advanced knowledge of disease processes, pathophysiology, and medications.
  • Maintain productivity and quality standards while working independently in a remote environment.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years of Inpatient Clinical Documentation Integrity (ICDI/CDI) experience required.
  • At least 12 months of current CDI production experience required.
  • Experience performing concurrent inpatient medical record reviews required.
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • One of the following credentials required: RHIT, RHIA, RN, RRT, CCS, CCS-P, or MD (International or Domestic).
  • CDIP or CCDS certification required.
  • Strong knowledge of clinical documentation improvement, ICD coding, regulatory compliance, medical necessity, disease processes, pathophysiology, and healthcare reimbursement.
  • Excellent analytical, critical thinking, problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced remote environment while meeting productivity and quality standards.
  • Flexibility to work business hours and additional hours, including evenings or weekends, as needed.
