Job description

Remote Healthcare & Professional Liability Litigation Associate

A respected healthcare and professional liability defense practice is seeking a litigation associate to join its California litigation team. This position has been approved as fully remote for the right candidate and offers the opportunity to work on sophisticated healthcare-related litigation matters while maintaining strong collaboration and mentorship within a supportive team structure.

The practice represents hospitals, physicians, medical groups, and licensed healthcare providers in professional liability litigation and administrative licensing matters. Attorneys work closely with experienced litigators on matters involving risk assessment, motion practice, discovery strategy, fact investigation, and deposition work.

Leadership places equal importance on client satisfaction, employee well-being, and productivity. Attorneys consistently describe the culture as collegial, family-oriented, and collaborative, with meaningful mentorship and reasonable expectations surrounding workloads and communication.

Responsibilities

  • Draft and argue dispositive and substantive motions
  • Take and defend depositions of parties, experts, and witnesses
  • Conduct investigations related to pre-litigation healthcare incidents
  • Analyze medical records and factual evidence
  • Develop litigation and discovery strategy
  • Collaborate with clients, healthcare professionals, and litigation teams
  • Manage multiple active litigation matters with organization and reliability

Qualifications

  • 2 to 5 years of litigation experience
  • Experience in professional liability, healthcare litigation, or medical malpractice preferred
  • Strong written and oral advocacy skills
  • Ability to independently handle depositions and substantive litigation tasks
  • Active California Bar license in good standing
  • Proficiency with MS Word, Outlook, and Adobe Acrobat

Compensation & Benefits

  • Compensation range of $120,000 to $170,000 annually, depending on experience
  • Productivity-based bonus structure

Benefits include:

  • Medical insurance with 100% employee coverage and 50% dependent coverage
  • Employer-paid dental and vision coverage
  • Employer-paid life insurance
  • Employer-paid short-term and long-term disability coverage
  • Healthcare and dependent care FSA options
  • 401(k) plan with Roth contribution option
  • Paid parental leave
  • PTO, sick leave, and paid holidays
  • Employee Assistance Program
  • Paid parking
  • Bar dues coverage
  • Team events and firm-sponsored gatherings

Schedule & Expectations

  • Fully remote within California
  • Full-time position
  • 1920 annual billable requirement
  • Approximately 160 billable hours monthly

Interview process expected to consist of 1 to 2 rounds, likely via video conference

Candidate Profile

The team values attorneys who genuinely enjoy litigation work, demonstrate reliability and stability in prior roles, and are motivated by long-term professional growth rather than compensation alone. Candidates who communicate effectively, work collaboratively, and are interested in developing deeper expertise in healthcare and professional liability defense are strongly encouraged to apply.

Salary Range: $120,000 to $170,000
