Job Overview

The Program Director, Clinical Technologies is responsible for advancing the organization’s clinical technology and virtual care strategy through the implementation, optimization, and ongoing maturation of technology-enabled care solutions. This role supports innovative models of care delivery across inpatient, ambulatory, home, and virtual settings, ensuring clinical technologies, connected care solutions, and biomedical technologies are aligned to operational, clinical, patient experience, quality, safety, workforce, and financial objectives. This role programmatically leads the planning, execution, and deployment of clinical technology initiatives to shape the overall system strategy and direction for the portfolio or domain.

Partnership and delivery scope: This individual maintains strong vendor, IT, biomedical/clinical engineering, virtual care, informatics, and operational partnerships to expedite the clinical innovation portfolio of work. They facilitate establishing and maintaining schedules and dependencies for implementations, optimizations, strategic planning activities, and change management for complex clinical technology projects. This leader coordinates across informatics, IT, operations, virtual care, Clinical Engineering/Biomedical Services, and other essential functions to ensure successful end-to-end deployment of clinical technology solutions, connected medical devices, and clinical and operational workflows.

Connected care ecosystem: This leader works across clinical technology, virtual care, remote patient monitoring, medical device integration, and emerging digital health capabilities to ensure technologies are deployed as part of a coordinated care delivery ecosystem. They facilitate risk assessments and evaluate adoption and utilization of technologies and clinical solutions, developing mitigation plans to support seamless execution and safe use.

Governance and outcomes: This leader aligns with program and project sponsors to understand and translate business objectives into an accumulative series of program outcomes in the operating context of the business. This role facilitates program advancement through governance activities, identification of risks and realization of benefits, communication of program decisions, and change management activities.

Leadership competencies: This role must have the ability to look at the big picture, translate business objectives into an outcome-based framework for action, demonstrate strong program and project management skills, and foster effective team culture and dynamics.   This role will have expectationsbe expected to effectively collaborate with and manage work effort of individuals of matrixed reporting structures.  Other important attributes include the ability to negotiate through disputes, communicate effectively, stay organized, 

attend to detail, and guide, negotiate, and integrate multiple projects and project managers.

Job Responsibilities

  • Actively partner with clinical, operational, virtual care, biomedical/clinical engineering, and IT leaders to set program strategies and guide work across various care settings, including inpatient, ambulatory, home-based, and virtual care environments.
  • Collaborate closely with operational leaders and staff, informaticists, IT analysts, practice and education, virtual care leaders, digital health teams, Clinical Engineering/Biomedical Services, supply chain, vendor partners, and others needed to advance enterprise, system, department, or domain initiatives.
  • Articulate vision, strategy, and execution plans in terms of program outcomes required to achieve business objectives. Communicate the business impact of projects and programs to various stakeholders.
  • Define program execution structure, including component projects, teams, methodologies, and project management requirements. Apply standards and guidelines to define, organize, and oversee delivery of results.
  • Establish program governance structures to oversee programs, clarify accountability across projects, and support sponsorship and decision-making.
  • Participate and integrate in existing governance structures.
  • Plan and coordinate resources for approved projects and activities across functions. Coordinate underlying projects to attain their combined benefits for the program.
  • Provide a framework and roadmap to integrate component projects and efforts, including program milestones and target outcomes. Establish and oversee an inventory of supporting processes to advance the adoption and use of clinical technologies.
  • Coordinate with the Transformation Office, IT PMO, and other key stakeholders to manage organizational change related to program deliverables.
  • Drive continuous improvement strategies for reliable and consistent performance across programs and other system projects.
  • Partner with operational and clinical leaders to identify, evaluate, and scale virtual care, remote monitoring, and technology-enabled care delivery opportunities that improve access, quality, patient experience, workforce effectiveness, and financial performance.
  • Facilitate collaboration between Information Technology, Digital, Clinical Engineering/Biomedical Services, Informatics, Supply Chain, Operations, and vendor partners to support lifecycle planning, standardization, governance, implementation, and optimization of clinical technologies and connected medical devices.
  • Support alignment of clinical technology and virtual care solutions with clinical workflows, operating models, adoption strategies, and measurable outcomes.
  • Follow established organizational standards and processes related to communication, measurement, and results of delivery.
  • Maintain inventory of domain priorities and provide support as requested to a wide variety of projects and initiatives, including but not limited to project ownership, implementation, facilitation, or other involvement.

Required Qualifications

  • B.S./B.A. in business, technology or related field or an equivalent combination of experience, education, and training.
  • 5 years managing related programs

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced/Clinical degree (e.g., RN, PharmD)
  • M.A./M.S. in Informatics, Computer Science, or Statistics
  • 5 years leading enterprise programs to achieve business outcomes that are differentiating in the marketplace
  • Clinical operations experience
  • Advanced knowledge of the healthcare industry and the intersection of clinical care and technology needs facing care teams and operations.
  • Proven experience in hospital technology deployments, project management, or healthcare IT including familiarity with various project and program management tools and methodologies
  • Strong understanding of clinical workflows, EHR and other health information technology systems, infrastructure, data integration, and healthcare compliance standards (e.g., HIPAA, FDA) applicable to clinical area.
  • Experience leading virtual care, remote patient monitoring, telehealth, or digitally enabled care delivery programs.
  • Experience collaborating with Clinical Engineering/Biomedical Services on enterprise medical device strategy, integration, governance, or lifecycle management.
  • Experience implementing connected care solutions involving device integration, interoperability, and clinician workflow optimization.
  • Knowledge of healthcare technology ecosystems spanning inpatient, ambulatory, home-based, and virtual care settings.
