WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING DAY TO DAY
As a Health Scientist, you will use your knowledge and experience to optimize business results and customer experience by:
  • Providing leadership in IT project planning, coordination, and priority setting within the agency and public health community.
  • Leading public health informatics initiatives by developing technology strategies, guiding health information systems improvements, and advancing data-sharing capabilities to support public health objectives.
  • Planning and developing strategies for new models of health information interchange and automation in medicine and public health.
  • Advising national and international organizations on developing and implementing informatics policies and future directions.
  • Monitoring alignment of team strategies, goals, and work with the organization's mission, vision, values, and strategic plan, and communicates these to staff.

Qualifications
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
Basic Qualifications: Bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree: major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position. This degree must be from an educational program from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (external link) at the time the degree was obtained.
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
Minimum Qualifications: You must have one year of specialized experience to perform successfully the duties of the position. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service performing ALL of the following:
  • Leading development of public health informatics policies and standards, providing expert guidance to address health IT challenges and support national and international data-sharing efforts.
  • Directing strategic planning of informatics programs, setting IT goals and integrating innovative technologies to enhance public health surveillance and outcomes.
  • Overseeing design and evaluating of health information systems, advancing inter-operable data exchange, multi-jurisdictional databases, and standardization efforts.
  • Collaborating with federal, state, and local partners to implement health information exchange models and improve data quality and information system interoperability.
  • Leading team operations by managing workloads, coaching staff, and monitoring progress to deliver timely, high-quality informatics solutions aligned with organizational goals.

If such experience is on a part-time basis, you must provide the average number of hours worked per week as well as the beginning and ending dates of the experience so it can be fully credited.
