Job description

Position Summary
This position is responsible for the accurate coding and billing of inpatient and outpatient professional services provided to patients working from the appropriate documentation in the medical record. Classification systems include the current versions of CPT and ICD as well as other specialty systems as required by diagnostic category. All work is carried out in accordance with the rules, regulations and coding conventions of the American Hospital Association, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, and organizational coding guidelines.
Essential Duties
  1. Reviews and audits documentation for verification of type and level of professional services rendered using the current version of the Evaluation and Management Guidelines and CPT coding rules and guidelines.
  2. Queries providers and/or appropriate staff when documentation is missing, inadequate, ambiguous or unclear for coding purposes. Utilizes proper written and verbal communication skills.
  3. Summarizes audit findings and assists supervisor in providing ongoing training to providers on coding and documentation requirements assuring accurate reimbursement for services provided. Utilizes proper communication skills when presenting educational opportunities to providers.
  4. Reviews and/or assigns CPT codes for the procedures performed on and off campus. Utilizes all documentation necessary to assign the proper CPT codes. This includes assigning correct CPT modifiers to document atypical services rendered.

  1. Attends meetings and educational conferences for professional development and ongoing education to maintain coding credentials.

Minimum Qualifications
  1. Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. Associate's degree in Health Information Technology, Medical or Business field preferred.
  2. Work Experience: A minimum of one year physician coding or medical records experience required.
  3. Special Training, Certification or Licensure: A minimum of one of the following certifications is required: CPC, COC (CPC-H), CCA, CCS, CCS-P. CPC, CCS-P or RHIT.

Salary Range: $25.04 - $33.11
Work Setting: This is a fully remote position. Candidates must reside in Colorado.
