Remote H1B Programming information

What is remote H1B programming?

A Remote H1B Programming job refers to a software development or programming position in the United States that is performed remotely (from home or another location) by someone holding an H1B visa. The H1B visa allows U.S. employers to hire foreign workers in specialty occupations, including technology and programming roles. Remote work has become more common for H1B holders, especially since the COVID-19 pandemic, but employers must comply with Department of Labor and USCIS requirements, including proper documentation and notifications for remote work locations.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote H1B programmer?

To thrive as a Remote H1B Programmer, you need strong programming skills in languages like Java, Python, or C#, along with a relevant degree (typically in computer science) and eligibility for H1B sponsorship. Familiarity with code repositories (such as Git), cloud platforms (AWS, Azure), and common development frameworks is often required. Excellent communication, time management, and the ability to work independently are crucial soft skills for remote collaboration. These skills ensure productivity, code quality, and effective teamwork across distributed environments.

What are some common challenges faced by remote H1B programmers and how can they be addressed?

Remote H1B Programmers often encounter challenges such as coordinating across time zones, navigating cultural differences, and maintaining clear communication with distributed teams. To address these, it's important to establish regular check-ins, utilize collaboration tools, and proactively communicate availability and progress. Many organizations offer mentorship programs and virtual meetups to foster inclusion and team integration, which can help remote H1B workers build strong professional relationships and advance in their careers.

Job Type: Full-Time
Remote Employment: Remote Optional
Job Number: 00949
Department: R&D Ops
Division: General
Opening Date: 08/26/2026
About
For over 25 years, NEOGOV has been at the forefront of public-sector innovation, building technology that helps government and education organizations work smarter, move faster, and better serve their communities.
We are a team of cutting-edge technologists, operators, and problem-solvers with top-tier skills and a shared ambition: to build the most efficient operating model in GovTech. We combine deep public-sector expertise with modern SaaS practices, AI-enabled workflows, and a relentless focus on execution.
At our core, we are a people-first company. We empower our customers to support the public servants they employ, the communities they serve, and the talented teams that bring our platform to life.
Our solutions support the entire employee journey, from hire to retire. By transforming complex HR and compliance workflows into simple, intuitive experiences, we help public-sector organizations reduce friction, improve efficiency, and focus on what matters most: making a difference.
This posting is for an existing vacancy.
The Role
  • Lead a small team to build NeoGov's AI platform - the shared AI services, infrastructure, and tooling used across our public-sector SaaS products.
  • Own the roadmap and delivery of GenAI, AI agents, RAG, and intelligent automation into products used by governments and public agencies.
  • Partner with Product, Data, Infrastructure, and Security to ship securely, compliantly, and at scale.

What You Will do
  • Lead the team - hire, coach, and grow a small team of AI/ML and platform engineers.
  • Own delivery - turn the AI strategy into a prioritized roadmap and ship it.
  • Build the platform - GenAI services, agents and orchestration, multi-agent (A2A), MCP integrations, RAG, semantic search, tool calling, and workflow automation, packaged as reusable services.
  • Set standards - define patterns, golden paths, and shared frameworks other teams build on.
  • Modernize - microservices, event-driven, API-first, IaC, and CI/CD across .NET, Python, and cloud-native.
  • Own governance & safety - evals, guardrails, tracing, hallucination and PII protection, and human-in-the-loop workflows.
  • Stay hands-on - design reviews, prototyping, and unblocking the team.

Who You Are
Must-Haves
  • 6-8 years engineering, with 1-2 years leading as a manager or tech lead - open to a strong senior/staff engineer stepping into their first management role.
  • Shipped shared/platform services other engineers build on.
  • Hands-on with GenAI/LLMs, RAG, vector databases, and semantic search; familiar with agents, A2A, MCP, and tool calling (or eager to go deep fast).
  • Strong .NET and Python - APIs, backend, and AI services.
  • Solid distributed systems, microservices, event-driven, and API-first foundations
  • IaC (Terraform or AWS CDK), containers, CI/CD, and cloud-native SaaS.
  • Working knowledge of AI governance and safety practices.
  • Strong communication and leadership across engineering, product, data, and security.
Nice to Have
  • Built AI platforms, internal AI tooling, or an AI Center of Excellence.
  • Experience with agents, A2A, MCP servers, tool registries, agent memory, and observability.
  • .NET modernization and Python AI services experience.
  • Delivery in regulated or public-sector environments.
  • Familiar with eval/monitoring tools (Langfuse, LangSmith, MLflow, Phoenix) and data platforms (OpenSearch,
  • Snowflake, Databricks).

What NEOGOV Offers
  • Comprehensive Benefits package (medical, dental, vision, etc.) for full-time employees
  • Generous PTO to support work-life balance
  • Remote working opportunities
  • 401K Matching
  • Autonomy to grow and find your career path with supportive leadership
  • 12-week Paid Parental Leave
  • Inclusive and diverse environment

NEOGOV does not discriminate in employment on the basis of race, color, religion, sex (including pregnancy and gender identity), national origin, political affiliation, sexual orientation, marital status, disability, genetic information, age, membership in an employee organization, retaliation, parental status, protected military status, or other non-merit factors.
