Remote Sr./ Lead Server Engineer | Cedar Rapids, Iowa, United States Remote Sr./ Lead Server Engineer (Windows & Linux) About the Role Join a fast-paced, forward-thinking technical team as a Senior/Lead Server Engineer supporting a large-scale, hybrid server infrastructure. This remote contract opportunity allows you to play a pivotal role in safeguarding and modernizing critical business systems across both Microsoft Windows and Unix/Linux platforms. Take ownership of vulnerability remediation, server security, and operational stability while working with cutting-edge technology and collaborating with cross-functional teams. Responsibilities - Ensure high availability, stability, and optimum performance of enterprise server environments - Lead server security initiatives, including vulnerability remediation and permissions management - Analyze vulnerability scan results and implement sustainable remediation strategies - Drive modernization projects: provisioning, upgrading, decommissioning, and tech-debt reduction - Support hybrid infrastructure spanning on-premises data centers and cloud platforms - Automate server administration tasks using PowerShell, Bash, or Python scripting - Harden operating systems and maintain security baselines aligned to organizational standards - Collaborate with application teams to resolve security findings and implement best practices - Provide technical escalation during major incidents and conduct root cause analysis - Participate in on-call support rotation to ensure infrastructure resilience Required Skills and Experience - Minimum 5 years supporting enterprise Windows Server and Unix/Linux environments - Deep experience in Microsoft Windows Server, Red Hat Enterprise Linux, AIX, or Solaris - Proven track record delivering vulnerability remediation in large-scale enterprise settings - Working knowledge of vulnerability management tools (Tenable, Qualys, Rapid7) - Strong understanding of OS hardening, patch management, and secure configuration - Scripting proficiency with PowerShell, Bash, or Python - Advanced troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills - Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities Preferred Skills - Experience with hybrid cloud platforms: Microsoft Azure or AWS - Familiarity with configuration management tools: Ansible, Puppet, Chef, SCCM/MECM - Knowledge of enterprise authentication systems: Active Directory, Entra ID, LDAP, Kerberos - Background supporting regulated environments, especially in financial services or insurance Benefits - 100% remote work with flexible arrangements - Opportunity to lead critical security and modernization initiatives - Collaborative environment with access to the latest technologies - Exposure to enterprise-scale, hybrid infrastructure challenges - Career growth through high-impact projects and cross-team collaboration How to Apply Ready to make an impact as a key technical leader?
