What does a remote graphic designer do?

Remote graphic designers do the same job as regular graphic designers; they create visual concepts to communicate a message that informs, inspires, or captivates customers. But instead of working in the office, remote graphic designers work from home or a different location of their choice that has a wi-fi connection. Remote graphic designers help organizations form their brand and express a particular identity or idea for promotional and advertising material. They are skilled in the manipulation of colors, shapes, fonts, images, photography, print design, logos, and animation, and may use computer software or draw by hand. Additionally, they collaborate with multimedia animators, artists, and other creative types to bring visual concepts to life. Examples of their work include layout and design for brochures, corporate reports, magazines, advertisements, and billboards. Some remote graphic designer positions require the employee to come into the office sometimes, while other jobs are entirely remote.

What is a remote graphic designer?

Remote graphic designers are creative professionals who use digital tools to create visual content such as logos, advertisements, websites, and social media graphics while working from a location outside of a traditional office, typically from home. They collaborate with clients and teams online, using communication platforms and file-sharing services to deliver design projects. This role requires strong design skills, proficiency with graphic software, and excellent time management to meet deadlines independently.

How does a remote graphic designer typically collaborate with clients and team members?

As a remote graphic designer, collaboration is primarily managed through digital tools such as project management platforms, video conferencing, and file-sharing services. You’ll regularly communicate with clients to gather feedback, clarify project requirements, and present design concepts. Team collaboration often involves attending virtual meetings, sharing progress updates, and working closely with copywriters, marketers, and developers to ensure cohesive project outcomes. Clear communication and proactive organization are essential for managing deadlines and maintaining strong working relationships in a remote environment.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote graphic designer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Graphic Designer, you need strong visual design skills, proficiency in color theory and typography, and a portfolio showcasing creative work, often supported by a degree or certification in graphic design. Familiarity with industry-standard tools like Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) and collaborative platforms such as Figma or Sketch is essential. Excellent communication, time management, and self-motivation are vital soft skills for effectively collaborating with clients and teams remotely. These skills ensure the delivery of high-quality, impactful designs while meeting deadlines and client expectations in a remote work environment.

Simply Business is a digital insurance brokerage that specializes in one thing: protecting the businesses our customers are working hard to build. We're doing this by simplifying the insurance-buying process for all small businesses, blending together a combination of technology, data, and insurance knowledge. Our proprietary technology platform allows small business owners to easily search and compare quotes from over 20 top-rated insurance providers, customize their coverage, and purchase and access their policies - all online.

Founded in the UK in 2005, Simply Business is an insurtech pioneer with nearly 20 years of experience supporting small businesses. Simply Business is passionate about building an outstanding product for our customers - one that empowers their entrepreneurial spirits.

More importantly, we're doing it all while taking care of our people. We've consistently been named a best place to work, including most recently ranking in Built In's 2025 Best Companies to Work for in the US (Top 100), and Best Places to Work in Boston.

We want team members who have the drive to challenge boundaries. If you're smart and passionate about delivering brilliant customer experiences, we'd love to hear from you.

We are looking for a creative, execution-driven Graphic Designer to join our growing U.S. Marketing team. In this role, you will be the visual engine behind our digital marketing campaigns, helping to bring the Simply Business brand to life across a variety of digital touchpoints.
This is a highly collaborative, hands-on role where your creativity directly impacts business growth. Working alongside senior creatives and marketing managers, you won't just make things look beautiful-you will design with a customer-centric lens, dive into performance data, and help us methodically test and optimize our creative across paid media, web, and social channels. If you are a curious, performance-minded designer looking to sharpen your strategic skills and scale an international brand in the U.S. market, we want to hear from you!Responsibilities
Digital Design & Campaign Execution
  • Creative Asset Production: Conceptualize and execute high-quality digital assets for integrated marketing campaigns, including paid social (Meta, TikTok, YouTube, LinkedIn), programmatic ads, email templates, and web graphics.
  • Iterative Testing: Collaborate closely with the Growth Marketing team to execute creative variations for A/B testing. You will interpret performance data and user feedback to continuously optimize and improve asset conversion rates.
  • Channel Obsession: Tailor visual storytelling to fit the unique requirements and consumer behaviors of different digital platforms, ensuring maximum engagement on each specific channel.
  • Motion & Multimedia: Utilize motion graphics and basic video editing to create dynamic, engaging content that stops the scroll and tells our brand story effectively.
Brand Stewardship & Design Systems
  • Brand Consistency: Act as a champion for the Simply Business visual identity, ensuring all marketing touchpoints are cohesive, polished, and strictly aligned with our brand guidelines.
  • System Contribution: Actively build upon and maintain our marketing design system and asset libraries in Figma, keeping components organized and scalable.
  • Cross-Functional Alignment: Work alongside internal UX/UI designers, copywriters, and marketing teams to ensure a seamless visual journey from initial ad click to final on-site conversion.
Web Collaboration & Layout
  • Digital Layouts: Apply strong typography, visual hierarchy, and responsive design principles to marketing landing pages and web assets.
  • Developer Partnership: Prepare and package clean design assets for our web development team, collaborating with them to ensure your designs are implemented flawlessly on our content management platforms (like WordPress).
Qualifications
  • Experience: 5-7 years of professional graphic design experience, preferably within an in-house marketing team, digital tech startup, or creative agency environment.
  • Portfolio: A strong digital portfolio showcasing clean composition, modern typography, compelling layouts, and real-world examples of digital marketing campaigns.
  • Core Tech Stack: Mastery of modern collaborative design tools (Figma is our primary canvas) and core Adobe Creative Suite applications (Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects).
  • Data Curiosity: A strong interest in performance marketing and user data. You are eager to learn why an ad performed well and use those insights to guide your next design.
  • Execution & Agility: A proactive self-starter who handles tight deadlines and quick iterations with ease, remaining comfortable with a fast-paced environment.
  • Collaboration & Communication: Excellent teamwork and communication skills; someone who takes constructive feedback well and can clearly explain the rationale behind their design choices.
Bonus Points For:
  • Experience or strong interest in designing for B2B audiences or small business consumer segments.
  • Familiarity with the capabilities and layout constraints of CMS platforms like WordPress or Webflow (you won't be coding, but knowing how the web works is a major plus).
  • Advanced motion design, illustration, or basic video editing skills.

Why This Will Succeed in the US Market

1. Clear Career Progression Lure

By reframing the data and testing requirements as "interpret performance data to optimize assets" rather than "leveraging analytics to build high-performing systems," you lower the barrier of entry while still filtering for candidates who care about business outcomes. Ambitious mid-weights see this as a golden opportunity to learn "growth design," which is a highly lucrative skill set in the US.

2. The Tooling is Right-Sized

By calling out Figma as the primary canvas and moving Adobe CC to a supporting role, you instantly align with how modern mid-level American designers work. It signals that Simply Business is modern, agile, and values efficient design workflows.

3. Balanced Collaboration

By explicitly stating "preparing clean design assets for our web development team," candidates instantly breathe a sigh of relief. They know they are being hired to do what they love-design-while partnering with technical experts, rather than being forced to act as an underpaid developer.
How does this level of responsibility feel to you? Does it align well with the budget and the structural dynamic of the current marketing team?

What Is in It for You?

Here are some of the great benefits and perks that come from being a Simply Business employee:

  • Group plan for medical, dental, vision, and prescription drug coverage.

  • Short term disability, long term disability, and life insurance coverage.

  • Participation in the Company's bonus program-Participation in 401(k) plan with a 5% employer match.

  • Commuter benefits to help cut down on parking and public transit costs.

  • 25 days of vacation time plus 10 sick days and 10 company holidays.

  • A genuine investment in your learning and development-Regular team outings and volunteer opportunities.

  • An awesome office space.

  • A hybrid working model, giving our employees great choice and flexibility to work in a way that's best for their particular job, their teams, and their lives.

Employment Practices

Simply Business is an equal opportunity employer. We're committed to welcoming and helping employees grow within an inclusive & diverse culture.
