What is a remote graphic designer?

Remote graphic designers are creative professionals who use digital tools to create visual content such as logos, advertisements, websites, and social media graphics while working from a location outside of a traditional office, typically from home. They collaborate with clients and teams online, using communication platforms and file-sharing services to deliver design projects. This role requires strong design skills, proficiency with graphic software, and excellent time management to meet deadlines independently.

What does a remote graphic designer do?

Remote graphic designers do the same job as regular graphic designers; they create visual concepts to communicate a message that informs, inspires, or captivates customers. But instead of working in the office, remote graphic designers work from home or a different location of their choice that has a wi-fi connection. Remote graphic designers help organizations form their brand and express a particular identity or idea for promotional and advertising material. They are skilled in the manipulation of colors, shapes, fonts, images, photography, print design, logos, and animation, and may use computer software or draw by hand. Additionally, they collaborate with multimedia animators, artists, and other creative types to bring visual concepts to life. Examples of their work include layout and design for brochures, corporate reports, magazines, advertisements, and billboards. Some remote graphic designer positions require the employee to come into the office sometimes, while other jobs are entirely remote.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote graphic designer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Graphic Designer, you need strong visual design skills, proficiency in color theory and typography, and a portfolio showcasing creative work, often supported by a degree or certification in graphic design. Familiarity with industry-standard tools like Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) and collaborative platforms such as Figma or Sketch is essential. Excellent communication, time management, and self-motivation are vital soft skills for effectively collaborating with clients and teams remotely. These skills ensure the delivery of high-quality, impactful designs while meeting deadlines and client expectations in a remote work environment.

How does a remote graphic designer typically collaborate with clients and team members?

As a remote graphic designer, collaboration is primarily managed through digital tools such as project management platforms, video conferencing, and file-sharing services. You’ll regularly communicate with clients to gather feedback, clarify project requirements, and present design concepts. Team collaboration often involves attending virtual meetings, sharing progress updates, and working closely with copywriters, marketers, and developers to ensure cohesive project outcomes. Clear communication and proactive organization are essential for managing deadlines and maintaining strong working relationships in a remote environment.

Vay

Job description

At Vay, we're bringing remote driving to the real world - a genuinely new way to move that puts a professional driver safely in control of a car from afar. It's a bold idea, and telling that story well is one of the most powerful things we can do to earn public trust and grow.

That's where you come in. We're looking for a rare "player-coach" who can both set the direction of our social presence and roll up their sleeves to create the work - a hybrid of social strategist, graphic designer, and content creator in one person. You'll own our channels end-to-end: shaping strategy and the content calendar across Instagram, TikTok, YouTube/Shorts, and X; defining our voice and visual identity; and personally shooting, designing, writing, and shipping high-quality content - including on-site with our fleet in Las Vegas.

Social isn't a side channel for us - it's one of our most scalable ways to educate the public on remote driving and turn curiosity into app installs and rides. As we scale past 100K+ trips and expand our service, you'll be the single owner making sure our story is told consistently, on-brand, and at the quality our product deserves.

You're senior enough to lead the vision, and hands-on enough to make it real yourself.

What you'll be driving

You'll be the dedicated owner of Vay's social and content strategy, combining creative direction with hands-on production:

  • Social strategy & direction: Own the social strategy, channel mix, and content calendar across Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube/Shorts; define our voice and positioning; set growth targets for reach, engagement, and install/ride referrals.
  • Graphic design & motion: Produce on-brand graphics, motion, and templates for social, campaigns, and the app store, maintaining a consistent visual identity across everything we publish.
  • Content creation: Plan, shoot, and edit short-form video and photography - including on-site with the fleet in Las Vegas - and write copy that turns the remote-driving story into clear, engaging content.
  • Creative enablement & video production: Raise the creative-quality bar across the company, support video production for other teams, and enable content for additional platforms such as LinkedIn and X by partnering with the teams that own them.
  • Community management: Monitor, manage, and respond to social inboxes and comments daily.
  • Measurement & iteration: Track performance, report on organic acquisition impact, and double down on the formats that work.
What are we looking for

We're looking for a hands-on creative who can set strategy and ship the work themselves:

  • 3+ years of relevant experience in social media and content creation, spanning both video and static formats.
  • Proven ability to plan, shoot, and edit short-form video and photography for social.
  • Strong design skills producing on-brand graphics, motion, and templates (portfolio required).
  • Experience owning social strategy, channel mix, and a content calendar across Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube/Shorts.
  • Ability to translate complex or technical concepts into clear, engaging copy.
  • Comfortable raising the creative bar and supporting other teams' video and content, not just producing your own.
  • Comfortable owning daily social inbox and comment engagement.
  • A measurement mindset - you track reach and engagement and tie content back to acquisition impact.

Nice to have

  • Experience marketing a category-defining, trust-sensitive product (mobility, AV, hardware, or similar).
  • A track record of growing an organic following from an early stage.
  • Comfortable being on camera and directing shoots on-site with a fleet.
Why choose Vay

A global team of smart, motivated people from 30+ countries who love tackling hard problems and turning bold ideas into reality.

Huge scope for impact in a fast paced environment
