Job description

Summary/Objective:
The AWS / Esri Platform Architect is responsible for the design, deployment, and operational oversight of the organization's hosted geospatial platform running within AWS. This role is both operational and strategic, contributing directly to technical decisions regarding the architecture, performance, and reliability of the platform.
This individual will serve as a subject matter expert in the Esri ecosystem in a cloud infrastructure, guiding architectural decisions related to ArcGIS Enterprise deployments, map service hosting, licensing infrastructure, and supporting spatial database environments. The role will work closely with peers, product teams, Implementation, and customer support teams to ensure the platform operates reliably and scales effectively to meet customer needs.
Essential Functions:
  • Design, implement, and maintain AWS infrastructure supporting the hosted platform
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance on the architecture and operation of the Esri ecosystem within AWS
  • Manage and maintain ArcGIS Enterprise environments including ArcGIS Server, Portal for ArcGIS, and supporting components
  • Oversee deployment and performance of map services, feature services, and geospatial web services
  • Manage ArcGIS licensing infrastructure and ensure licensing compliance across hosted environments
  • Participate in architectural planning and technical decision-making for improvements to the hosted platform
  • Evaluate infrastructure performance and recommend improvements to platform scalability and reliability
  • Assist in the deployment and maintenance of spatial databases including PostgreSQL/PostGIS environments where applicable
  • Participate in hosted operations incident handling, troubleshooting platform issues through log analysis and system diagnostics
  • Work cross functionally with engineering, support, and product teams to ensure successful deployments, upgrades, and maintenance of customer environments
  • Review platform performance against contracted SLA targets and assist in maintaining service reliability
  • Assist in documentation of hosted platform policies, operational procedures, and deployment standards
  • Maintain and improve the hosted deployment pipeline and infrastructure automation processes
  • Translate complex technical topics into clear communication for internal teams and stakeholders
  • Other related duties as assigned
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, GIS, Information Systems, or related field
  • Strong experience with AWS cloud services including EC2, RDS, FSx, S3, Route 53, etc.
  • Experience deploying and managing ArcGIS Enterprise environments including ArcGIS Server and Portal for ArcGIS
  • Familiarity with ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Desktop workflows
  • Understanding of geospatial service architecture including map services and feature services
  • Experience administering Windows Server environments
  • Understanding of web application architecture and web request flow
  • Experience troubleshooting through log analysis and system diagnostics
  • Experience managing or supporting Esri Based hosted SaaS platforms
  • Ability to contribute to architectural decision-making for cloud-hosted systems
  • Ability to interface with customers and internal stakeholders regarding technical platform issues
  • Code development and CICD best practices

Preferred Skills:
  • Experience administering PostgreSQL or other spatial databases
