Job Summary:

As the GIS Engineer, you will ultimately be responsible for interpreting maps, managing GIS databases, and maintaining accurate geospatial data to support telecommunications engineering projects. You will design and edit GIS data, coordinate project documentation, and deliver high-quality mapping solutions. As the GIS Engineer, your customers are engineering teams, project managers, and telecommunications clients, and you will make meaningful contributions to the company's success through data accuracy, quality deliverables, and operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities (Including, but not limited to):

  • Design, edit, maintain, and validate GIS data using QGIS and other GIS platforms while ensuring alignment with company standards.
  • Research, verify, and manage spatial data to maintain database integrity and support engineering projects.
  • Initiate and coordinate internal work orders while maintaining accurate project tracking and third-party management systems.
  • Develop, maintain, and organize project documentation, ensuring data integrity, completeness, and on-time project delivery.
  • Communicate project issues proactively and support data visualization and presentation for engineering teams.
  • Meet or exceed internal and external quality standards while supporting multiple projects and related engineering activities.
  • Additional responsibilities within functional scope based on business needs.

Required Qualifications:

Education, Licensing, and Certifications

  • Associate's degree in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) or a related field preferred, or a GIS Certificate.
  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline preferred.

Experience

  • 1–4 years of experience with QGIS, ArcGIS, or other GIS software.
  • Experience with telecommunications, outside plant engineering design, network construction, or related industries preferred.

Skills and Abilities

  • Demonstrated understanding of GIS principles, geospatial data management, and data visualization.
  • Strong organizational, time management, communication, and attention-to-detail skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365, SharePoint, MS Excel, and Windows-based applications.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, solve problems, and adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of project management processes, fiber networking, broadband network architecture, and engineering concepts preferred.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Construction and field experience.
  • Knowledge of fiber networking, routing, telecommunications engineering, and outside plant design.
  • Experience with engineering design systems and project management tools.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work in an office environment while sitting for extended periods.
  • Regular use of hands and fingers for typing, computer operation, and handling documents.
  • Occasionally reach with hands and arms, walk, or stand for extended periods.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in person, by phone, and through written correspondence.
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment background check and drug screen.
