What is a remote GIS software engineer?

A Remote GIS Software Engineer is a technology professional who designs, develops, and maintains Geographic Information Systems (GIS) software while working from a location outside a traditional office. They use programming languages and GIS platforms to create tools for mapping, spatial analysis, and data visualization. These engineers collaborate with teams, often across different locations, to deliver solutions for industries such as urban planning, environmental management, and logistics. Working remotely allows them to access and manage GIS data and applications virtually, using cloud-based tools and secure connections.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote GIS software engineer?

To thrive as a Remote GIS Software Engineer, you need expertise in geographic information systems (GIS), programming languages such as Python or JavaScript, and a degree in computer science, geography, or a related field. • Experience with collection system studies, including ampacity, short circuit, reactive power, grounding, insulation coordination, harmonic, and transient overvoltage.

  • Experience with energy storage facilities.

  • Authoritative capabilities and experience applying industry-standard resource modeling and assessment techniques (PVsyst, Windographer, etc.).

  • Experience with statistical analysis of solar and wind data, resource and net energy production forecasts (including uncertainty/variability analysis and loss assumptions), design, site conditions, and technology suitability.

  • Experience with data collection, post-construction measurement campaigns (including power performance testing), and project contracts.

  • Experience with AutoCAD.
