The GIS Specialist will be a member of our GIS team that assists project managers by preparing and analyzing high quality maps to support client services, environmental permit acquisitions, assessments, and compliance management in all energy sectors. This is a full-time benefits eligible opportunity that can be based anywhere in the U.S. The anticipated annual salary for this position is between $87,500 and $122,600 annually, depending upon qualifications and experience.

responsibilities

  • Data analytics and preparation of maps, databases and ArcGIS Online content to support environmental permitting, routing and siting, construction activities, and field operations for all energy sectors: pipeline, electric transmission and renewable projects.
  • Manage data for large scale projects in an organized manner.
  • Work with internal and external entities to create detailed, accurate, and high-quality geospatial deliverables.
  • Work with internal and external clients to ensure Merjent's reputation for excellence.
  • Assist Project Managers with GIS operational and project requirements throughout project lifecycle.
  • Support the development of GIS workflows, project standards, and automation scripts.

qualifications and experience

  • Bachelor's degree in geography, natural sciences, or a closely related field.
  • Minimum of 4 years of GIS experience.
  • Proficiency utilizing ArcGIS Pro.
  • Proficiency in spatial data management.
  • Familiarity with post-processing ArcGIS Field Maps data for wetland delineation and/or cultural surveys.
  • Working knowledge of ArcGIS Online (Field Maps, Dashboards, Notebooks) and other web viewing platforms.
  • Knowledge of enterprise geodatabases and ArcGIS server.
  • Ability to read, manipulate, modify, produce, and present zoning, plat, land use, and aerial maps.
  • Strong data management, project management, organizational, and people skills.
  • Ability to manage time and complete multiple tasks under tight schedule constraints and change in work scope and deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and "own" the process.
  • Ability to analyze, organize, and interpret data from multiple sources and interests.
  • Must be detail-oriented with excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to serve as a key point of contact for GIS coordination across internal teams and, when appropriate, external clients.

qualifications and experience (preferred)

  • Experience performing desktop wetland/waterway reviews.
  • Experience in environmental permitting.
  • Knowledge or familiarity with Minnesota and Wisconsin permitting requirements.
  • Knowledge of Fulcrum (Field Data Collection Software).
  • Ability to lead GIS efforts on large, complex, multi-phase, and multidisciplinary projects.
  • Ability to provide mentorship and technical leadership across the GIS team.
  • Drive development of advanced workflows, automation, and data management strategies.
