Job Summary
The GIS Specialist provides professional Geographic Information Systems (GIS) support through the development, maintenance, and analysis of geospatial data, maps, databases, and cartographic products. The GIS Specialist assists with enterprise geodatabase management, GIS data processing, quality assurance, and ArcGIS Online administration while supporting a variety of engineering, environmental, natural resource, and infrastructure projects

Duties/Responsibilities
  • Develop, edit, maintain, and update GIS maps, spatial databases, and geospatial datasets.

  • Create cartographic products, graphics, and tabular reports to support engineering, environmental, and resource management projects.

  • Assist in the design, development, and maintenance of enterprise geodatabases.

  • Support GIS data automation through geoprocessing tools, scripts, and workflow development.

  • Assist with developing and maintaining GIS processing models and automation procedures using Esri software.

  • Review GIS products and datasets to ensure accuracy, completeness, consistency, and compliance with project standards.

  • Perform quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) on spatial data, maps, and database updates.

  • Maintain and update geodatabases, feature classes, metadata, and related documentation.

  • Assist with the administration and maintenance of ArcGIS Online content, web maps, hosted feature layers, and user resources.

  • Produce maps, exhibits, graphics, and presentation materials for technical reports and project deliverables.

  • Process, edit, convert, and integrate spatial data from multiple sources.

  • Maintain GIS logs, project records, documentation, and digital file organization.

  • Provide GIS technical support and assistance to project staff and end users.

  • Assist with data collection, spatial analysis, and geospatial reporting activities.

  • Coordinate with interdisciplinary teams to support project planning, implementation, and data management.

Required Skills/Abilities
  • Working knowledge of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) principles and practices.

  • Experience with cartographic design, map production, and spatial data management.

  • Knowledge of ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online.

  • Familiarity with geodatabase design, maintenance, and editing.

  • Understanding of GIS quality assurance and quality control procedures.

  • Experience processing, validating, and maintaining geospatial datasets.

  • Basic knowledge of Python scripting and GIS automation concepts.

  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple assignments while meeting deadlines.

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy.

  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams

Education and Experience
  • Required: Bachelor's degree in Geography, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Natural Resources Management, Earth Sciences, Engineering, Computer Science, or a closely related field

  • Required: Minimum of three (3) years of professional GIS production experience using Esri software OR Successful completion of any combination of 3 the following ESRI training courses within the past two years. This may be substituted for some of the experience and/or time requirements:
    • ArcGIS Pro.
    • Introduction of Geoprocessing Scripts Using Python.
    • Basics of Python.
    • Managing Lidar Data Using Mosaic Datasets.
    • Map Design Fundamentals.
    • Creating Prediction Surfaces in ArcGIS.
    • Building Geoprocessing Models Using ArcGIS Pro.
    • Creating and Sharing GIS Content Using ArcGIS Online
    • User Workflows for ArcGIS Online Organizations.

Physical Requirements
