Remote Game User Experience Researcher information

What is a remote game user experience researcher?

A Remote Game User Experience (UX) Researcher is a professional who studies how players interact with video games, collecting and analyzing feedback to improve game design and enjoyment. They work remotely, using online tools to observe, survey, and interview players. Their insights help developers create more intuitive, engaging, and accessible gaming experiences. Remote UX researchers often collaborate with designers, developers, and product managers to implement player-centered changes throughout the game's development lifecycle.

How does a remote game user experience researcher typically collaborate with development teams to improve gameplay experiences?

As a Remote Game User Experience Researcher, collaboration with development teams is largely virtual and involves regular meetings, presentations, and feedback sessions. Researchers gather player insights through surveys, playtesting, and usability studies, then synthesize findings into actionable recommendations. They communicate these insights to designers, developers, and product managers to refine game features and interfaces. Despite working remotely, strong communication skills and effective use of collaboration tools are essential for integrating player feedback into the game development process.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote game user experience researcher, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Game User Experience Researcher, you need a background in human-computer interaction, psychology, or a related field, along with experience in user research methodologies. Familiarity with usability testing tools, survey platforms, and analytics systems such as UserTesting, Qualtrics, and game telemetry software is typically expected. Strong communication, empathy, and analytical thinking help you collaborate with game developers and accurately interpret player feedback. These skills are crucial for creating engaging, player-centered game experiences and ensuring that design decisions are grounded in real user insights.

Job description

Lyntris is a defense technology company that connects sensing to action across the connected battlespace. Lyntris brings together the talents of Accelint and Vitesse teams under one mission, with each contributing deep expertise within their domain. Combining differentiated hardware, software and mission expertise, Lyntris helps customers sense threats, make sense of complex conditions and act with greater speed, precision and confidence in contested environments.
Lyntris supports U.S. and allied defense organizations across every branch - including Navy, Army, Air Force, Space Force and allied partners - spanning strategic, operational and tactical missions and every domain: Space, Air, Land, Sea and Cyber. With more than 200 active defense programs, Lyntris works at every level of the mission, from national command authority to the tactical edge.
Solutions are designed by operators who understand the mission, engineered for the conditions that degrade or defeat standard systems, and built on an open, modular architecture that integrates into existing programs without requiring them to start over. Lyntris moves faster than the traditional defense cycle - with integrated design, build and test capabilities in-house - and delivers systems that sustain and endure long after initial fielding.
As a Graphic Designer, you will be responsible for a variety of digital products based in Captivate and the Unity game engine. You will work with highly skilled and motivated delivery teams made of Instructional Systems Designers (ISDs), Software Engineers, 3D Artists, and Tech Leads to design, develop, test, build, and deploy customer training software - and have a blast doing it.
Our ideal candidate is responsible for supporting all kinds of design efforts of these digital products, validating their efforts with the program Creative Leadership and other Creative Operations team members regularly to accomplish this. They are responsible for the accurate implementation of their eventual designs into the game engine, as well, and work closely with our Software Engineers to ensure this.
Our ideal candidate workshops their efforts with the Creative Director and Creative Operations team weekly to ensure their designs and implementations are cohesive. They're open to critique and can pick up brand standards and iterate on them easily. Our ideal candidate also has a portfolio that demonstrates the core competencies of a graphic designer. In fact, it is required that you submit an online portfolio and/or website of your work with your application.
While the best Graphic Designer portfolios typically display a proficiency in general graphic design, other efforts in motion graphics, branding, and logomark design, collaborations with others, and video work are all acceptable. We also recommend galleries demonstrating an understanding of typography and principles of design.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Specialization in producing high-fidelity 2D graphics.
  • Craft motion graphics and ensure implementation by software engineers is solid.
  • Design for desktop-based and/or tablet-based UIs.
  • Gather and evaluate user requirements in collaboration with software engineers and other stakeholders.
  • Illustrate design ideas to product stakeholders using mockups as needed.
  • Provide feedback to software engineers as designs are implemented to ensure user experience is cohesive and accurate.
  • Regularly workshop efforts with the Creative Director and the Creative Operations team to maintain a cohesive design and user experience of the digital product.
  • Leverage design thinking and questioning techniques to develop strategies where pathways are not clear.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelors' Degree in Graphic Design or related field. Additional years of experience may be substituted for degree.
  • Working knowledge and skill in design tools, for example, Photoshop, Illustrator, XD, After Effects, and/or other Adobe Creative Suite products, as well as optional (but not required; see Preferred below) prototyping tool like Sketch, Figma, Balsamic, etc.
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to present complex concepts clearly and persuasively across audiences at various levels of understanding.
  • Attention to detail and exceptional organizational skills.
  • Ability to work with other designers and developers to implement new ideas.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense (DOD) Security Clearance.

Preferred Skills (Not Required):
  • Familiarity with Adobe Captivate authoring tool.
  • Previous experience in collaboration with system and software engineers on UI implementation.
  • Working knowledge and/or understanding of prototyping tools like Sketch, Figma, Balsamic, etc.
  • Experience outside of 2D production that demonstrates a variability of design skills.
  • Understanding and appreciation of standard user interface design concepts.
  • Understanding of foundational design principles and practices, typography and color, and multi-device usability standards.

Physical Requirements:
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.

Clearance Requirements
Some positions will require access to U.S. National Security information. Positions that require this access will be required to receive and maintain a U.S. government personnel security clearance (PCL). In order to qualify for this position, the candidate must be a US Citizen and either currently possess this National Security eligibility or be able to complete the investigation application process with a favorable determination and maintain that eligibility throughout their employment.
