Work EnvironmentTypically handles both client-side and server-side tasks, often in full project cyclesFocuses on user interface and experience, collaborating closely with designers and back-end developers
Common UsageUsed across startups, tech companies, and agencies requiring versatile developersPopular in UI/UX design firms, front-end agencies, and companies emphasizing user experience

The main difference is that a Remote Full Stack Developer manages both front-end and back-end development, offering a broader skill set, while a Remote Front End Developer specializes in creating engaging user interfaces. Your choice depends on whether you prefer a full-spectrum development role or a focus on user-facing features.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Full Stack Developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Full Stack Developer, you need strong proficiency in both front-end and back-end programming languages (such as JavaScript, Python, or Java), web frameworks, and a solid understanding of database management. Familiarity with version control systems (like Git), cloud platforms, and CI/CD pipelines is typically required, along with relevant certifications such as AWS Certified Developer or Microsoft Azure certifications. Excellent communication, self-motivation, and time management skills are essential for collaborating across distributed teams and managing independent workloads. These competencies enable developers to build robust, scalable applications efficiently while maintaining productivity and effective teamwork in a remote environment.

What Does a Remote Full Stack Developer Do?

As a remote full stack developer, you work from home to create back-end and front-end code for software, websites, and other technology applications. Your responsibilities include developing website architecture, helping to create a website application, developing and designing APIs, and ensuring that applications have the right level of responsiveness. Common duties associated with this job include working on a database or server to ensure functionality, creating web design features by working with graphic designers, helping to transform a concept into a finished product, and staying updated with the latest programming languages and web applications.

How do Remote Full Stack Developers typically collaborate with team members across different time zones?

Remote Full Stack Developers often work with colleagues located around the globe, making strong communication skills and adaptability essential. Teams usually rely on collaboration tools like Slack, Jira, and GitHub to track progress, discuss features, and conduct code reviews asynchronously. Regular virtual meetings are scheduled to accommodate time zone differences, and clear documentation helps ensure everyone stays aligned. Successful developers in this environment are proactive about providing updates and clarifying requirements to keep projects on track.

They are skilled in a variety of programming languages and frameworks, enabling them to handle the full technology stack required for web development. Working remotely, they collaborate with teams using digital tools, manage code repositories, and often participate in virtual meetings to ensure project goals are met efficiently.

JOB CLASS:

PURPOSE :

We're looking for a Full-Stack Engineer to join our product engineering team. You'll work across the stack โ€” from frontend interfaces to backend services โ€” building features and systems that directly improve the health journey of our participants.

This isn't a heads-down, ticket-taking role. We're looking for someone who thinks beyond the immediate task: someone who asks "why" before jumping to "how," and who's excited to grow into owning technical design decisions. You'll work closely with our engineering manager and collaborate with the team to shape how we build โ€” not just what we build.

_ ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS_ _ :_

  • Build and maintain features across our full stack (PHP, Vue, React Native, AWS Serverless)
  • Collaborate on Technical Requirements Documents (TDRs) and contribute to system design discussions
  • Participate in architecture decisions and help evaluate trade-offs as our systems evolve
  • Write clean, testable code and participate in thorough code reviews
  • Partner with product and design to translate user needs into thoughtful technical solutions
  • Leverage agentic AI workflows to accelerate development, automate repetitive tasks, and enhance your productivity
  • Help improve our development processes, tooling, and documentation over time

What Success Looks Like:

  • In your first 30 days: You're onboarded, shipping small PRs, reviewing your teamโ€™s PRs, and building context on our systems and codebase.
  • By 90 days: You're independently owning features end-to-end and actively contributing to TRDs and design conversations.
  • By 6 months: You're a go-to contributor on the team โ€” proposing technical approaches, identifying system-level improvements, and helping raise the bar for the team.

Why Wondr:

  • Mission that matters. The code you write directly affects people's health outcomes.
  • Fully remote. Work from wherever you do your best thinking.
  • Growth opportunity. You'll have a clear path from strong mid-level contributor to senior engineer with system design ownership.
  • Collaborative culture. Small team, low ego, high trust.

_ QUALIFICATIONS_ _ :_

Education:

Bachelorโ€™s degree in a technology field preferred but not required.

Required:

  • 3โ€“5 years of professional software development experience across frontend and backend
  • Solid working experience with at least two of: PHP, Vue, React Native, AWS Serverless (Lambda, API Gateway, DynamoDB, etc.)
  • Comfort working across the full stack โ€” you don't need to be an expert in everything, but you're willing to go wherever the problem takes you
  • Experience contributing to or writing technical documentation (TDRs, design docs, ADRs, or similar)
  • Strong communication skills โ€” you can explain your thinking clearly to both technical and non-technical teammates
  • A systems-thinking mindset: you consider how pieces fit together, not just the piece in front of you
  • Experience with or enthusiasm for agentic AI workflows (e.g., AI-assisted coding, automated testing, prompt-driven development) โ€” this is part of how we work at Wondr.

Preferred:

  • Experience with health tech, wellness platforms, or mission-driven products
  • Familiarity with mobile development workflows (React Native in particular)
  • Experience mentoring junior developers or leading small technical initiatives
  • Exposure to CI/CD pipelines, cloud infrastructure, or DevOps practices

GENERAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

General office working conditions can be remote from home or in the office. Each department head determines if position is work from home or hybrid meaning works from home and in the office as needed. Work schedules vary.
