Job description

Job Title: Software Developer
Location: Remote
Position Type: Full-Time
About the company:

At VivSoft, we aim to solve complex federal problems using emerging and open technologies in a collaborative and rewarding environment. VivSoft is a diverse team of strategists, engineers, designers, and creators experienced in building high-performance, effective software, with a focus on impactful organisational design and software delivery dynamics. We build secure Software Factories based on DoD reference designs and NIST Frameworks for Cloud and DevSecOps. These factories deliver AI/ML Applications, data science platforms, blockchain, and Microservices for DoD, Healthcare and Civilian Agencies
Job Summary:
The Software Developer builds and maintains the mariner- and vessel-facing web capabilities delivered under the VIDA-DMS program: the Coast Guard Trident portal, an Angular and Node.js application running on a containerized platform in AWS GovCloud, and the CREST micro-frontend that surfaces compliance workflows within that portal. Working under the direction of the portal technical lead and senior developers, this role delivers sprint-committed user stories end-to-end, from Angular component work and Node.js service endpoints to unit testing, peer review, and pipeline promotion. This is a hands-on delivery role on a fixed-price program with published release milestones, so consistent sprint execution and clean handoff to QA matter more than breadth of technology exposure. The developer will also learn and apply federal security engineering practice, including STIG-aligned configuration, container image hardening, and remediation of pipeline vulnerability findings, as part of routine feature work.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop, test, and maintain Angular front-end components and Node.js service endpoints against sprint-committed user stories and defined acceptance criteria
  • Build and extend micro frontend components that integrate the compliance application into the public-facing portal shell
  • Implement and consume REST APIs supporting vessel, submission, and reference data exchange with upstream Coast Guard systems
  • Write and maintain unit tests, support QA test execution, and resolve defects identified in test and staging environments within the sprint they are raised
  • Follow secure software development lifecycle practices, including OWASP guidance, dependency management, and remediation of vulnerability findings surfaced by the CI/CD pipeline
  • Meet Section 508 and accessibility requirements in all user-facing work
  • Participate in daily standups, sprint planning, backlog refinement, sprint review, and retrospective; keep work item status and estimates current in the program tracking tool
  • Submit merge requests, complete peer code reviews, and support promotion of builds through development, staging, and production environments
  • Contribute to technical documentation, API specifications, and user-facing help content supporting contract deliverables
  • Support demonstrations and user acceptance testing sessions with Government stakeholders as directed

Required Qualifications:
  • Associate's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical field, or equivalent professional experience, technical training, or relevant certifications in place of a degree.
  • 3-6 years of professional software development experience, including front-end and service layer work on the same application
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Angular (version 12 or later) and TypeScript, including component architecture, reactive forms, RxJS, and state handling
  • Working proficiency with Node.js and building or consuming REST APIs
  • Experience with relational databases and SQL, preferably PostgreSQL
  • Practical experience with Git-based version control, branching strategy, and merge request-driven code review
  • Experience writing unit tests and working within an automated CI/CD pipeline
  • Demonstrated ability to work in an Agile or Scrum delivery cadence with defined sprint commitments
  • U.S. citizenship
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a favorable DHS/U.S. Coast Guard suitability determination for a moderate risk public trust position
  • Ability to support core collaboration hours aligned to the Eastern time zone
Preferred Qualifications & Skills:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related STEM field.
  • Experience developing applications for federal, DoD, or DHS clients
  • Experience with AWS or AWS GovCloud hosted applications
  • Familiarity with GitLab CI or comparable DevSecOps pipeline tooling
  • Exposure to micro frontend patterns such as Module Federation or Web Components
  • Experience integrating with identity providers using OIDC or SAML, such as Keycloak or a federal ICAM service
  • Awareness of NIST 800-53, FISMA, FedRAMP, or DISA STIG requirements as applied to application development
  • Experience integrating a custom application with Appian or a comparable low-code platform, particularly event-driven integration through a Kafka proxy or comparable message broker, is a significant plus
  • CompTIA Security+ CE
  • Existing DHS or Coast Guard suitability determination or active federal background investigation

Benefits:
  • Comprehensive Medical, Dental, and Vision Plans (Healthcare benefits are 100% employer-paid for employees only)
  • Life Insurance
  • Paid Time Off (Flexible/Combined PTO, Bereavement Leave, 11 Company Paid Holidays)
  • 401K Retirement Plan with employer match
  • Professional Development Training Reimbursement
