TAIT is looking for experienced Freelance Event Traffic Managers (U.S. based) to support a major project taking place on-site in Washington, DC from mid August to late October 2026, with remote work beginning June 2026. Travel and accommodations will be provided for on site time (if not residing in the DC area).
This is a temporary contract role, not a full-time staff position.
Position Purpose:
The Freelance Event Traffic Manager oversees vehicle traffic and site access during event setup and breakdown. They manage on-site traffic routes, parking areas, and a vendor-supplied traffic team, while coordinating with the Trucking and Shipping Manager to ensure deliveries move efficiently from the off-site marshaling yard to the event site. This role reports to the Transportation Manager within Site Operations.
Detailed areas of focus could include:
  • Crew management and leadership
  • Managing permitted street parking locations and site parking areas, including using provided site supplies as required (barricade, cones, flags, etc)
  • Regulating vehicle access to site to designated deliveries and production vehicles
  • Minimizing disruption of regular traffic flow while allowing for safe and efficient vehicle access to work site
  • Regular interaction with local police departments
  • Ability to mediate and de-escalate situations as needed
  • Knowledge of best practices and safety standards for working on active roadways

Responsibilities:
Client Management:
  • Respectful and thoughtful interaction with client team on site.

Project Staffing
  • Oversee traffic team on ground during build and break.

Team Management
  • Establish team communication structure and methods of communication (Slack, WhatsApp group chats, etc).
  • Work with key stakeholders for Emergency Action Plan / Health and Safety Plan.
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure seamless planning and execution.

Supplier/Vendor Management
  • On ground, communicate with Supplier/Vendors about elements, trucking, labor, and venue logistics as is relevant.

Wrap/Post Show Close Out:
  • Emergency Action Plan (provide information to HSSE department in developing overall project HSSE plan).
  • Post show recap reports

Position Requirements:
  • 3+ years of demonstrated large scale, outdoor event production experience
  • Evaluate approaches and discover efficiencies, including proactively suggesting changes where appropriate
  • Play a key role in communications with all stakeholders and all departments.
  • Provide outside view to the team for POV and reference.
  • Guarantee communication paths are frequent and open.
  • Enforce policies & procedures.
  • Ensure that all work conforms to pre-established specifications & standards.
  • Take initiative, multi-task, and work positively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Work with discretion, diplomacy, confidentiality, and tact in high-pressure settings.
  • Demonstrate a sense of urgency & act responsively.
