What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Foundry Engineer, and why are they important?

To excel as a Remote Foundry Engineer, you need a solid background in mechanical or materials engineering, strong knowledge of metal casting processes, and typically a relevant engineering degree. Familiarity with CAD software, simulation tools like MAGMASOFT, and ERP systems is commonly required, along with experience in remote collaboration platforms. Excellent problem-solving, communication, and self-management skills set outstanding candidates apart in virtual and distributed environments. These capabilities are critical to ensuring high-quality production, efficient workflow, and effective teamwork while working remotely in a manufacturing context.

What are some common challenges faced by Remote Foundry Engineers when working with distributed teams?

Remote Foundry Engineers often collaborate with global teams to design, optimize, and maintain foundry operations using virtual tools and communication platforms. A common challenge is ensuring clear communication across different time zones and cultures, which requires proactive updates and detailed documentation. Additionally, troubleshooting equipment or process issues remotely can be more complex without physical presence, so strong problem-solving skills and familiarity with digital monitoring systems are essential. Building strong relationships with on-site staff and other engineers helps to bridge gaps and ensure smooth project execution.

What is a Remote Foundry Engineer?

A Remote Foundry Engineer is a professional who specializes in designing, operating, and improving foundry processes—such as metal casting and molding—while working remotely. They leverage digital tools to oversee production workflows, troubleshoot issues, and collaborate with on-site teams from a distance. Remote Foundry Engineers often use simulation software, data analysis, and virtual meetings to ensure quality and efficiency across foundry operations. This role requires strong technical expertise in metallurgy, manufacturing processes, and remote communication technologies.

What is the difference between Remote Foundry Engineer vs Remote Metal Casting Technician?

AspectRemote Foundry EngineerRemote Metal Casting Technician
CredentialsBachelor's in Mechanical, Materials, or Metallurgical EngineeringTechnical diploma or certification in metal casting or related field
Work EnvironmentDesign, development, and process optimization remotely; occasional site visitsHands-on casting work, often on-site, with remote support
Industry UsageUsed in manufacturing, aerospace, and automotive industries for process innovationPrimarily in foundries and metal manufacturing facilities
Search & ComparisonOften compared for engineering roles focusing on design and processCompared for technical, hands-on casting roles

The Remote Foundry Engineer typically focuses on designing and optimizing casting processes remotely, requiring engineering credentials. In contrast, the Remote Metal Casting Technician performs hands-on casting work, often on-site, with some remote support. Both roles are essential in manufacturing but differ mainly in their work environment and technical focus.

Job Summary

The Senior Palantir Foundry Ontology Engineer will support development of a Navy audit artifact management and traceability platform within Palantir Foundry. This role will design and implement ontology-driven data models that link audit artifacts, financial controls, requirements, and audit evidence across enterprise systems within Palantir Foundry to support Navy Financial Management Digital Data Transformation (FMDDT) initiatives, audit readiness, artifact traceability, data governance requirements and ontology modeling to ensure traceability of audit artifacts, enhance financial controls, and improve audit readiness. The position collaborates with Navy FM, audit, and technical stakeholders to translate audit requirements into scalable semantic data structures that support audit readiness, traceability, and analytics.

Key Responsibilities

Platform Development & Ontology Design:

  • Design and configure ontology objects within Palantir Foundry to represent audit artifacts, requirements, controls, and supporting documentation.

  • Define relationships between ontology objects to support artifact traceability across audit lifecycle stages.

  • Develop and maintain data pipelines that ingest and transform financial, logistics, and property data sources into the ontology.

  • Configure object views and operational data structures that enable artifact tracking and lifecycle visibility.

  • Collaborate with data engineers and functional stakeholders to ensure ontology structures support audit workflows and reporting requirements.

Audit & Financial Support:

  • Collaborate with Navy financial management stakeholders to translate audit requirements into ontology structures and data models.

  • Support artifact traceability across audit lifecycle stages to strengthen audit response and reporting.

  • Ensure platform outputs support audit response and financial control validation.

Data Governance & Security:

  • Implement role-based access controls (RBAC) and segregation of duties (SoD).

  • Ensure compliance with DoD security, data governance, and IL4/IL5 requirements.

  • Support governance of audit artifact metadata, lineage tracking, and audit data integrity.

Platform Enablement & Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Develop operational applications, analytic views, and reporting structures within Foundry to support audit lifecycle visibility.

  • Prepare technical documentation and provide platform guidance to functional and technical users.

  • Collaborate with engineers and analysts supporting the platform modernization effort.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience.

Experience:

  • 7+ years of enterprise data engineering, analytics development, or data architecture.

  • Experience designing or implementing semantic data models, ontologies, or knowledge graph architectures.

  • Experience with Navy FM, FMDDT, or financial system audit readiness initiatives.

  • Experience supporting audit response, financial management analytics, or compliance-driven systems preferred.

Skills:

  • Strong understanding of ontology modeling and semantic data architecture.

  • Experience with data pipelines, data modeling, and transformation workflows.

  • Familiarity with DevSecOps practices and secure cloud environments.

  • Ability to translate business or audit requirements into technical data models.
