Remote Founding Engineer information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Founding Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Founding Engineer, you need a deep background in software development, systems architecture, and ideally startup experience, often supported by a degree in computer science or related fields. Mastery of cloud platforms, version control (like Git), and familiarity with frameworks relevant to the product, as well as experience with DevOps tools, are typically required. Exceptional problem-solving, self-motivation, and strong communication skills help remote founding engineers stand out, especially in fast-paced, ambiguous environments. These combined skills and qualities are crucial for building scalable products, driving innovation, and collaborating effectively while working remotely in an early-stage company.

What is a Remote Founding Engineer?

A Remote Founding Engineer is a key technical team member who helps launch and build a startup from its earliest stages, working entirely or primarily from a remote location. They are responsible for designing and developing the initial product, making crucial technical decisions, and often establishing the company's engineering culture. Founding Engineers typically collaborate closely with the company’s founders and may have a significant influence on the startup’s direction. Their role often includes both hands-on coding and broader responsibilities such as hiring, setting up processes, and scaling technology as the company grows.

What are some unique challenges and rewards of being a Remote Founding Engineer in an early-stage startup?

As a Remote Founding Engineer, you'll face the challenge of building core product features from scratch while collaborating virtually with other founders and early team members. This often means balancing rapid, iterative development with high-quality code, all while helping to set technical direction and culture remotely. The role is highly rewarding for those who thrive in dynamic environments and value broad ownership, as your contributions directly shape the product and the company's future. You'll also gain valuable experience in both technical leadership and startup operations, positioning yourself for significant career growth and potential equity rewards.

Job description

About the Client

Our client is VC-backed who is building the all-in-one DeFi application unifying spot, perpetuals, staking, and yield across Ethereum, Solana, Arbitrum, and 100+ chains. With CEX-like speed, AI-driven guidance, and full self-custody, they are on a mission to become the only DeFi app users will ever need. Backed by integrations with leading protocols, including 1inch, LI.FI, deBridge, 0x, and more, the team is scaling rapidly and looking for exceptional engineering talent to join at a pivotal stage.

Role Overview

We are recruiting for a Fully Remote (you can be based anywhere in the world) Full-Stack Engineer who will take ownership of core product features from day one. This is a high-impact, high-autonomy role working directly alongside the founding team to build consumer-grade interfaces that integrate seamlessly with DeFi protocols, aggregators, and crypto APIs. The ideal candidate thrives in fast-paced startup environments and is energised by the opportunity to shape a product from the ground up.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead development across both frontend and backend, delivering features end-to-end.

  • Architect and build integrations with leading DeFi protocols, DEX aggregators, cross-chain bridges, and data providers.

  • Develop polished, performant user interfaces using Next.js, React, and TailwindCSS.

  • Design and maintain scalable backend services using Node.js (TypeScript), PostgreSQL, Redis, and WebSockets.

  • Operate with a high degree of independence, proactively identifying issues, proposing solutions, and executing with urgency.

  • Collaborate closely with the founding team to define technical direction and product strategy.

Requirements
  • 3–5+ years of hands-on experience in crypto/Web3 development (DEXs, wallets, aggregators, DeFi protocols), or demonstrable exceptional aptitude with strong proof of capability.

  • Strong proficiency with Next.js, React, and TailwindCSS for building intuitive, high-quality interfaces.

  • Solid backend experience with Node.js/TypeScript and PostgreSQL—writing clean, secure, and scalable code.

  • Proven track record of integrating with crypto APIs, DeFi protocols, and third-party aggregators.

  • Excellent communication skills, able to articulate technical concepts clearly and collaborate effectively in a remote environment.

  • Startup mindset: self-directed, comfortable with ambiguity, and driven to deliver results at pace.

  • High intellectual curiosity and a relentless drive for problem-solving and continuous improvement.

Nice to Have
  • Experience with account abstraction (ERC-7702 smart wallets).

  • Deep understanding of DEX/AMM mechanics, bridges, and liquidity management.

What This Role Offers
  • Ownership from day one—direct responsibility over core parts of the product.

  • Visible, measurable impact: your code will shape how thousands of users interact with the platform.

  • A fast-paced, high-performance environment focused on execution and results.

  • A clear path to technical leadership as the company scales.

  • The opportunity to be part of a mission-driven team building at the cutting edge of DeFi.
