The Accountant at Marguerite Casey Foundation (“the Foundation”) stewards the organization’s resources and champions financial integrity. They are meticulous with numbers and enjoy supporting others in the organization to understand and comply with financial policies and practices.  The Accountant is someone we can count on to ensure the Foundation’s compliance with all regulations, keep our financial data flawless and audit-ready.  This full-time position is based remotely in the US. It reports to the Director of Finance and is non-exempt under the Federal Fair Labor Standards Act.

What You Can Expect
As the Accountant at MCF, you can expect to:
 
  • Record and process all accounts payable including accounts payables, employee expense reimbursements, and corporate card expenses. 
  • Ensure that all internal  controls are strictly adhered to.
  • Prepare journal entries for the month-end close, record and process all invoicing/accounts receivable, prepare monthly reconciliations.
  • Work with team members across the Foundation,  especially on our Operations team.
  • Develop and share deep knowledge of the Foundation’s expense policies to support colleagues with finance inquiries.
  • Annually prepare 1099s for filing, assist in preparation of materials for annual audit and Form 990-PF, assist in policy updates and participate in implementation of cross-department workflows.
  • Gain exposure to complex work, like payroll regulations across multiple states and accounting for investments.
  • Gain experience process mapping, change management, and implementation of a new expense reporting tool. 
Who Should Apply
You should consider applying if you:
 
  • Have a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting with at least 3+ years of accounting experience; experience with accounting for private foundations or non-profits and related tax requirements is valued. Bonus if you have 2+ years experience with accounting software, preferably Sage Intacct
  • Have strong knowledge of GAAP and demonstrated ability to apply the principles to accounting transactions in a private foundation.
  • Have great habits around verifying data and take pride in your ability to catch a misplaced decimal point and other details. You get genuine satisfaction from a perfectly balanced ledger and zero-error data.
  • Have a customer service orientation, and you are known for your ability to balance taking initiative and being a part of a team.
  • Use sharp critical thinking to transform everyday bottlenecks into streamlined, long-term operational wins.
  • Can pivot between tasks when things get busy and maintain your focus on the priorities.
  • Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, including phone and email etiquette.
  • Bring strong self-management, organization, and time-management skills needed to meet deadlines and stay productive while working remotely and across different time zones.
  • Are experienced using Zoom and Google Suite.
  • Handle and manage confidential information with discretion and tact.
  • Are committed to the Foundation’s mission and values of belonging & representation, mutual respect, and trust.
Working Conditions
  • Hybrid & Remote Work  - This position is open to candidates nationally and across time zones.  Occasional travel includes at least two in-person staff retreats a year.
  • Physical Demands - Constant periods sitting at desk and working on a computer; Must be able to lift up to 15 lbs at a time; Occasional travel.
  • Benefits - The Foundation provides health, dental, and vision benefits, annual professional development funds, donation matching, and retirement plans.
  • Time Off - The Foundation offers 30 days of Paid-Time-Off annually, 11 paid holidays, and two floating holidays.
The starting salary range for this position is  $118,000 - $130,000 annually.
