You'll be expected to translate client requirements into actionable engineering tasks, communicate technical constraints or possibilities, and coordinate deployments or troubleshooting efforts. Successful engineers in this role are proactive communicators and can bridge the gap between user needs and technical solutions, even when working across time zones.

What is a Remote Forward Deployed Engineer?

A Remote Forward Deployed Engineer is a technical professional who works remotely to help implement and customize software solutions directly for clients, often acting as a bridge between the engineering team and the customer. They typically travel (virtually or occasionally onsite) to work closely with clients, understand their needs, and ensure the successful deployment and integration of products. Their role often includes troubleshooting, coding, and providing support tailored to each client’s requirements. This position requires strong technical skills, excellent communication, and the ability to adapt solutions for diverse customer environments.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Forward Deployed Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Forward Deployed Engineer, you need strong software engineering skills, problem-solving abilities, and a background in computer science or a related field. Job description

Who Are We
Voxel is building the future of Computer Vision and Machine Learning for operations, risk, and safety. We use computer vision and AI to enable existing security cameras to automatically detect hazards and high-risk activities, keep people safe and drive operational efficiencies. Our technology addresses the key cost drivers for workers' compensation, general liability, and property damage, which cost US employers over $500 billion annually.
The Role
You will act as the tip of the spear for our go-to-market efforts. By rapidly prototyping, integrating with legacy data streams, and shipping production-ready code, you will directly convert operational bottlenecks into scalable platform features. As the first engineer in this function, you will define how Voxel ships software to the field and build the technical foundation necessary to scale our deployment velocity.
If you enjoy building computer vision systems that operate outside the lab - learning from messy real-world data and shipping models that directly improve safety and operations - this role offers the opportunity to have a direct impact on how industrial facilities operate.
What You'll Do
Build enterprise deployments
  • Ship for impact. Architect and write the code that makes Voxel work in the real world. You will build the end-to-end systems (frontend, backend, infrastructure) that unlock massive operational efficiency for enterprise customers.
  • Integrate our computer vision models with messy, existing facility infrastructure and legacy data streams.
  • Example Use Case: Architecting an end-to-end system for continuous time & motion studies: embedding with operations teams to turn raw video into productized insights on bottlenecks, throughput, and safety, while integrating video data with messy legacy systems (WMS, MES, sensors) to unlock entirely new operational signals.
  • Rapidly build and deploy product capabilities that unblock strategic enterprise deals, prove undeniable value, and accelerate revenue.

Work directly with customers and shape the product
  • Lead the end-to-end design of technical solutions, working directly with the Field CTO and enterprise customers.
  • Rapidly prototype and iterate on product capabilities based on real customer feedback.
  • Identify gaps between current product capabilities and enterprise requirements.

Create the forward-deployed foundation for the company
  • Build the machine that builds the machine. Create the internal tooling, reusable components, and automated workflows that will allow the forward-deployed engineering team to scale rapidly.
  • Document systems, tooling, and architecture to scale with the forward-deployed engineering function.
  • Define how forward-deployed engineering partners with product, engineering, and sales.
What We're Looking For
  • High velocity, generalist engineering capability with a track record of independently shipping production-ready software, with expertise in either Full-Stack Engineering or Perception Engineering.
  • Ability to move from idea to implementation with minimal structure.
  • You are comfortable sitting in a room with enterprise operators, understanding their systemic bottlenecks, and translating that into code by the end of the day.
  • Skilled at using generative AI tools, like Claude Code, to accelerate development time.
  • Experience building software in fast-moving startup environments.
  • Proficiency with frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow is a plus.
  • Interest in building and shaping a new engineering function.
Impact
This role will drive Voxel's enterprise growth. As the first product engineer on the forward-deployed engineering team, this individual will define how Voxel delivers solutions to complex customer environments while building the foundation for a scalable forward-deployed engineering organization.
Why Join Us?
Join a visionary team revolutionizing safety and operations, directly impacting the well-being of millions of essential workers. This is your chance to build an extraordinary business and foster a vibrant company culture that demands your absolute best. Alongside AI experts, experienced entrepreneurs, and passionate problem-solvers, you'll play a pivotal role in shaping the company's growth trajectory and market position.
Benefits:
  • Extensive / generous health, dental, and vision insurance
  • Highly competitive paid parental leave and support system
  • Ownership in the business through an Equity Incentive Plan
  • Generous paid time off and / or flexible work arrangements
  • Daily meals in-office, vibrant company events, team-building
  • 401K retirement plan, HSA options, pre-tax commuter benefits
