Job description

Job Title: Accounting Manager

Salary: $90000 - $125000 / Year (depending on experience)

Location: Purcellville VA - in office 4 days, 1 remote day

Type: Direct Hire

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Accounting Manager with a strong background in construction accounting to oversee financial operations, job costing, and reporting. This individual will manage the day-to-day accounting function while partnering closely with project managers and leadership to ensure accurate financial tracking of projects. The ideal candidate has deep experience with job costing, WIP schedules, and construction billing.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee daily accounting operations, including GL, AP/AR, and month-end close

• Manage and review job cost accounting, ensuring accurate tracking of labor, materials, and subcontractor costs

• Prepare and analyze Work-in-Progress (WIP) schedules, including over/under billings

• Partner with project managers to monitor project financial performance and budget vs. actuals

• Oversee construction billing processes, including AIA billing, progress billing, and change orders

• Ensure accurate revenue recognition using percentage-of-completion methods

• Review and approve journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial statements

• Manage cash flow forecasting and support financial planning efforts

• Ensure compliance with GAAP and internal controls

• Assist with audits, including external, internal, and tax audits

• Mentor and manage accounting staff

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required

• 5–8+ years of accounting experience, with at least 2+ years in construction accounting

• Strong knowledge of job costing, WIP reporting, and construction billing practices

• Experience with percentage-of-completion revenue recognition

• Proficiency in ERP systems (e.g., Sage 300/Timberline, Viewpoint, Foundation, or similar)

• Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, etc.)

• Strong understanding of GAAP
