Remote Firearm Design Engineer information

What is a remote firearm design engineer?

A Remote Firearm Design Engineer is a professional who specializes in designing and developing firearms and related components, working from a remote location rather than an in-person setting. They use computer-aided design (CAD) software and collaborate with engineering teams virtually to create innovative and safe firearm products. Their responsibilities often include prototyping, testing, and ensuring designs comply with safety and regulatory standards. Remote Firearm Design Engineers need strong mechanical engineering skills and a thorough understanding of firearm mechanics, materials, and manufacturing processes. Communication and project management skills are also essential for successfully collaborating with teams and clients remotely.

How does a remote firearm design engineer typically collaborate with cross-functional teams during a project?

Remote Firearm Design Engineers work closely with multidisciplinary teams, including manufacturing, quality assurance, and compliance specialists, primarily through digital collaboration tools. Frequent video conferences, design reviews, and shared project management platforms help ensure alignment on technical requirements and timelines. Effective communication and thorough documentation are essential, as feedback and iterations often happen asynchronously. Building strong virtual relationships with teammates is key to overcoming the challenges of remote collaboration and ensuring that project milestones are met efficiently.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote firearm design engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Firearm Design Engineer, you need a solid background in mechanical engineering, experience with firearms or ballistics, and typically a relevant engineering degree. Proficiency with CAD software (such as SolidWorks or AutoCAD), simulation tools, and knowledge of industry safety standards and certifications are essential. Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and effective communication are vital soft skills for collaborating remotely and ensuring design integrity. These competencies are crucial for developing safe, innovative firearms that meet regulatory and performance standards while working efficiently in a remote environment.

What is the difference between Remote Firearm Design Engineer vs Remote Mechanical Engineer?

Industry UsageFirearms manufacturing, defense, law enforcementAutomotive, aerospace, consumer products
Common Search/ComparisonYesYes

The Remote Firearm Design Engineer specializes in designing firearms and related components, often requiring firearm safety certifications and industry-specific knowledge. In contrast, a Remote Mechanical Engineer works across various industries with broader mechanical design skills. While both roles involve remote collaboration and engineering principles, the focus and certifications differ significantly, making them distinct career paths within engineering fields.

Do remote firearm design engineers make good money?

Remote firearm design engineers typically earn competitive salaries that reflect their specialized skills in CAD software, ballistics, and materials engineering. Compensation varies based on experience, location, and company size, with many earning above average engineering wages due to the niche nature of firearm design. Remote work can also influence salary ranges, often offering flexibility but sometimes requiring higher pay to attract talent.

Job description

Remote Sensing Software Engineer

The Opportunity

At Booz Allen, you'll join a team using advanced imaging, physics-based modeling, and AI/ML to solve some of the nation's most compelling Space Domain Awareness (SDA) and remote sensing challenges. You'll contribute to the design and development of high-fidelity processing pipelines that transform raw sensor data into insight.

You'll join a collaborative technical delivery team where you'll contribute to secure, reliable, user centric tools that accelerate mission outcomes.

What You'll Do:

  • Develop software tools for radiometric modeling and satellite observation geometry
  • Implement imaging and signal processing workflows including motion compensation, multi-frame alignment, and super-resolution
  • Build ML enabled detection, anomaly identification, and object classification modules using operational EO/IR and synthetic datasets
  • Design scientific Python pipelines, such as NumPy, OpenCV, Astropy, or SciPy, for real time and batch processing
  • Support orbital modeling tasks, such as SGP4, TLE ingestion, or basic pose estimation
  • Conduct imagery preprocessing such as radiometric calibration, artifact correction, and multi-frame filtering
  • Maintain reproducible environments using GitLab, containers, and experiment-tracking tools
  • Collaborate with astrodynamics SMEs, operations personnel, and ML engineers to deliver integrated mission capabilities

Join us. The world can't wait.

You Have:

  • 4+ years of experience with remote sensing, image processing, or GEOINT data exploitation
  • Experience designing, modifying, developing, writing, and implementing software programming applications using agile methods
  • Experience with Python and scientific Python packages such as NumPy, SciPy, OpenCV, or xarray
  • Experience with basic orbital mechanics
  • Experience with ML frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow
  • Experience with large sensor datasets such as HDF5 or cloud object storage
  • Active TS/SCI clearance; willingness to take a polygraphexam
  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM field

Nice If You Have:

  • Experience with administration of continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines using Kubernetes, Docker, or Jenkins
  • Experience with sensor phenomenology, radiometric calibration, or remote sensing interpretation
  • Experience with super-resolution, deblurring, spectral exploitation, or resolved feature extraction
  • Experience with uncertainty quantification, Kalman filtering, or tracking algorithms
  • Experience with AI augmented development workflows or agentic tools
  • Experience with GitLab based CI/CD workflows
  • Master's degree in an engineering field, or Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related STEM field

Clearance:
Applicants selected will be subject to a security investigation and may need to meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information; TS/SCI clearance is required.
