Job SummaryWe are seeking a Fire Protection Project Designer at Introba. Fire Protection Engineering is an interdisciplinary field that incorporates mechanical (fire sprinklers, standpipes, smoke control systems), electrical (fire alarm, mass notification, and security integrated systems), architectural (egress/life safety systems), and structural (fire resistance design).
This position is mainly responsible for designing accurate construction documents and providing analyses, peer reviews, and reports without supervision from the Senior Engineer/Senior staff's design.Responsibilities & QualificationsResponsibilities:
  • Responsible for the selection and design of complete fire protection systems to the following, but not limited to:

    • Hazard analysis & sprinkler piping layout, sizing, and equipment selection

    • Fire alarm layouts

    • Smoke control analysis and sizing

    • Egress calculations and fire barrier requirements

    • Special hazard systems, such as clean agents, water mist, or CO2

    • Mass Notification

  • Generate plans and coordinate with other trades

    • Assist in designing and creating designs including engineering concepts, distribution plans, riser diagrams, schedules, specifications, design analyses, and engineering reports, etc.

  • Responsible for providing consulting for life safety, building, and fire code compliance

  • Responsible for fire protection system interaction and commissioning of systems

  • Responsible for the design and production of Fire Protection design criteria

  • Responsible for Hazard Classification of storage occupancies

  • Responsible for code/standards review and investigation

  • Responsible for equipment layout

  • Responsible for the review of RFI's and shop drawing submittals from contractors

  • Responsible for the inspection, review, and preparation of site inspection reports

  • Responsible for providing construction cost opinions

  • Occasional on-site project observations and reviews and other duties required to fulfill contractual obligations for construction phase services

  • Interact with building owners, property management, architects, and members of design and construction team

  • Define system requirements and basis-for-design requirements for design-build work

  • Perform Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) checks

  • Assist with training and mentoring of entry-level and Technician team members

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Architecture, Mechanical Engineering, Architectural Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Fire Protection Engineering from an accredited program

  • Minimum 5+ years' experience in experience in facility design and construction

  • Active PE Registration and have passed the Fire Protection portion of the NCEES PE Exam

  • Able to provide consulting services for medium to large scale projects without supervision.

  • Familiar with the nature and characteristics of fire and associated products of combustion

  • Understands how fires originate, spread within and outside of buildings/structures, and how it can be detected, controlled, and/or extinguished.

  • Able to anticipate the behavior or materials, structures, machines, apparatus, and processes as related to the protection of life and property from fire

  • Understanding of chemistry, combustion, heat transfer, and fluid dynamics

  • Ability to read and understand construction drawings, specifications, and contract documents.

  • Excellent organizational, technical, communication (both written and verbal) skills

  • Documentation skills and be capable of working with minimal supervision

  • Capable of researching, reviewing, and developing design criteria for variety of facilities

  • Ability to professionally present technical issues to clients, and, when necessary, in laymen's terms

  • Self-starter who works well with others

  • Ability to plan, prioritize, organize and manage responsibilities on multiple projects.

  • Advanced knowledge of Fire Protection equipment and systems
