A remote financial planner is a professional who helps individuals or businesses manage their finances, investments, and long-term financial goals, but does so primarily through virtual channels such as phone calls, video conferencing, and online platforms. They provide services including budgeting advice, retirement planning, tax strategies, and investment recommendations, all without the need to meet clients in person. This remote setup offers flexibility for both the planner and client, often allowing for a broader client base and more convenient scheduling.

How do remote financial planners typically collaborate with clients and colleagues while working offsite?

Remote Financial Planners rely heavily on digital platforms to maintain strong client relationships and collaborate with team members. Video conferencing, secure messaging, and cloud-based financial planning tools are commonly used to conduct meetings, share documents, and track progress on client accounts. Effective communication skills and comfort with technology are essential, as much of the role involves proactive outreach, virtual presentations, and joint planning sessions with colleagues in compliance, investment, or tax advisory. While the work is flexible, staying organized and responsive helps ensure high client satisfaction and smooth teamwork.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote financial planner, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Financial Planner, you need strong analytical skills, comprehensive knowledge of financial planning, and certification such as CFP (Certified Financial Planner). Familiarity with financial planning software, CRM systems, and secure communication tools is typically required. • Supervise, develop, and mentor staff and seniors; contribute to team training, especially in winery-specific tax topics.
  • Maintain strong working relationships with clients, including controllers, winemakers, CFOs, and ownership groups.
  • Identify opportunities for additional services, cross‑selling, and value‑add offerings within the wine and agribusiness ecosystem.
  • Support the firm’s presence in the wine industry through participation in events, associations, and thought leadership.
  • Assist in proposal development and onboarding of new clients.

  • 5+ years of public accounting tax experience, with at least 2 years focused on wineries, vineyards, agribusiness, CPG, or manufacturing environments.
  • Demonstrated experience reviewing complex tax returns and managing staff.
Preferred:
  • Strong understanding of wine production cycles, agricultural cost accounting, UNICAP rules, and inventory costing.
  • Experience with multi-entity structures, family-owned operations, or private equity–backed wine businesses.
  • Familiarity with beverage alcohol regulatory requirements (TTB, excise taxes).
  • Experience with cloud-based accounting/tax software and workflow platforms.
BPM Offers:
  • Balance & Flexibility: 14 firm holidays (including 2 floating), Flex PTO, paid family leave, winter break, summer hours, and remote work options.
  • Total Rewards: personalized benefits, including 401(k) employer match; multiple medical, dental, vision offerings with up to 90% employer‑paid premiums; and pet insurance.
  • Well‑Being: interactive wellness platform, progressive mental‑health resources, and Colleague Resource Groups (CRGs).
  • Professional Development: performance‑based bonuses, dedicated coaching, and rich learning through BPM University
Who is successful at BPM:
  • Caring people who put others first
