FP&A Manager

Utility Revenue Services

Hinsdale, IL โ€ข Remote

$80K - $110K/yr

Full-time

Re-posted 11 days ago

Job description

We are hiring an FP&A Manager to own the planning, analysis, and reporting function at Utility Revenue Services (“URS”).

About Us

URS supports multifamily residential real estate owners with services that maximize recovery of their utility costs and increase net operating income. The company is 19 years old, led by two of its founders, and recently PE-backed. This is a foundational hire on a small finance team. You will work directly with the CFO across financial modeling, board and investor reporting, transaction analytics, and the ongoing analytical work that supports a fast-scaling business.

About the Role

You will run the FP&A function under the CFO at a fast-scaling company. The role is built for someone who wants real ownership of the function with direct exposure to the CFO and CEO.

The first two to four months focus on direct support of the monthly accounting close, giving you fast exposure to the business from the books up and providing critical accounting capacity during the onboarding period. Expect full-cycle accounting work in this phase: journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, accounts payable, and supporting the close. The role then transitions into the full FP&A scope as accounting capacity is back-filled.

Day to day, you will:
  • Financial Modeling: Own and evolve the integrated financial model. Run scenarios, stress-test assumptions, and produce the analysis behind capital allocation decisions, transaction support, and the rolling forecast.
  • Reporting and Dashboards: Lead the production of monthly board materials, lender reporting packages, the covenant dashboard, and the KPI dashboard. Improve them over time.
  • Transaction and Integration Analytics: Support integration analytical work for any strategic transactions: day-one readiness, synergy tracking, combined-entity reporting build, and post-close variance and run-rate analysis.
  • Performance Analysis: Own service-line gross margin analysis, revenue forecast, headcount planning, and the ad-hoc analyses the CEO, CFO, and Board need to make decisions.
  • Process and Tools: Identify ways to automate, simplify, and modernize our recurring workflows using AI and modern tooling. We are an AI-forward finance shop and we expect the FP&A Manager to push that further.
The Ideal Candidate

We need a self-starter, a hustler, and someone deeply curious. The right person reads the breadth of this role as the chance to build something rather than a workload to manage.

  • Experience: Four to eight years of progressive FP&A experience, ideally including end-to-end ownership of a financial model. Strong Excel and modeling skills. Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, economics, or related field. CPA, CFA, or MBA are pluses, not requirements.
  • Curiosity: You love to learn. You ask 'why' and 'what else' before settling on the easy answer. This is one of the traits we weight most heavily in any hire at URS.
  • Tech and AI Fluency: You pick up new technology fast. You already use Claude, ChatGPT, or similar tools to accelerate analytical work, automate tasks, and process unstructured data. You understand prompt engineering basics and can evaluate when AI output needs human judgment. This is required, not a nice-to-have. Exposure to programming (any language) or comfort with system and database architecture is a strong plus.
  • Ownership Mindset: You take a workstream from blank page to final deliverable without daily check-ins. You ask questions when something does not add up. You write and present clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Operating Style: Comfortable being the only FP&A person on the team today, with the understanding that the team will scale. Comfortable in a small, fast-moving, PE-backed environment where the playbook is being written as you go.
  • Growth Orientation: You see the role as a launchpad to Director of FP&A or Controller as URS scales. You take feedback well and apply it.
Why Join URS?
  • Real Ownership: You will run the FP&A function, reporting directly to the CFO. There is no layer between you and the strategy of the business. No bureaucracy, no committee work.
  • Executive Visibility: Direct exposure to the CFO and CEO. You will see how a small, lender-financed, PE-backed business actually operates.
  • Modern Stack: NetSuite ERP, modern AI tooling, IBCS-compliant reporting standards. We invest in the tools that let a small team do the work of a larger one.
  • Scope That Compounds: The role is positioned to grow into Director of FP&A or Controller as the company scales. Your growth is in your hands, not gated by tenure.
  • Flexibility: Work remotely or from our Hinsdale, IL office. We hire for output, not seat time.
How to apply:

Apply with your resume and a brief note on (a) the most sophisticated financial model you have built or significantly evolved, and (b) one specific example of how you have used an LLM (Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, or similar) to solve a real business or analytical problem. Tell us the tool, the task, and what you learned. Use your cover letter to provide answers to these questions.
