Job description

We are interested in every qualified candidate who is eligible to work in the United States. However, we are not able to sponsor visas or take over sponsorship at this time.
About the Role:
OnDeck, an Enova company, is a leading small business lender dedicated to helping entrepreneurs access fast, simple, and transparent financing. By combining cutting-edge data and technology with a human touch, we deliver an exceptional lending experience tailored to small business owners.
We are looking for a Manager, Underwriting to oversee the production, quality, and performance of our small business loan decisioning. In this role, you will lead a team of Underwriting Supervisors and Team Leads, focusing on developing these front-line managers, setting operational strategy, and driving high-level team performance. Reporting to the Senior Manager of Underwriting, this position is ideal for an experienced leader ready to scale their impact by managing through others.
What You'll Do:
  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of underwriting supervisors or team leads, each responsible for managing a pod of production underwriters
  • Hold your direct reports accountable to team performance targets including throughput, quality, and turnaround time; support them in diagnosing and resolving issues within their teams
  • Establish consistent standards, workflows, and expectations across teams so that underwriting quality doesn't vary by pod or shift
  • Serve as the escalation point for complex or exception decisions that surpass your direct reports' approval authority
  • Partner with Credit and Risk to ensure underwriting policy is clearly understood, correctly applied, and surfaced for revision when gaps emerge
  • Translate organizational priorities into operational plans your leadership team can execute
  • Own workforce planning for the underwriting function which includes headcount, scheduling, and capacity management in coordination with your supervisors
  • Drive cross-functional collaboration with Sales, Operations, Compliance, and Product on initiatives that touch the underwriting process
  • Develop and report on a scorecard of underwriting performance metrics for senior leadership
  • Play an active role in hiring and developing supervisory talent; build the bench for future leadership needs

What We're Looking For:
  • 5+ years of underwriting experience in small business or commercial lending
  • 7+ years managing people, with at least some experience managing other managers or team leads
  • Strong command of SMB credit fundamentals; cash flow analysis, financial statement review, and risk assessment
  • Proven ability to develop leaders: setting clear expectations, giving direct feedback, and building capability over time
  • Has an operational mindset; comfortable with metrics, process design, and driving accountability at scale
  • Strong communicator who can translate between frontline execution and senior leadership expectations
  • Experience working in a high-volume, technology-enabled lending environment
  • Background in fintech or online lending platforms is preferred
  • Familiarity with automated decisioning and where manual underwriting intersects with it
  • Exposure to fair lending or SMB-specific compliance requirements (Reg B, etc.)

Compensation:
The budgeted annual salary range for this position is $77,000 to $115,000. Actual annual salary will be determined based on qualifications, skills, experience, and level assessed during the hiring process and may fall outside of the range shown. Additional compensation for this role may include a bonus and restricted stock units. All full-time employees are eligible to participate in Company benefits, described in more detail here.
Benefits & Perks:
  • Our hybrid roles require in-office work Tuesday through Thursday, with remote flexibility on Mondays and Fridays. This schedule fosters collaboration, team connection, and strategic planning, enhancing communication and effectiveness to drive results.
  • Health, dental, and vision insurance including mental health benefits
  • 401(k) matching plus a roth option (U.S. Based employees only)
  • PTO & paid holidays off
  • Sabbatical program (for eligible roles)
  • Summer hours (for eligible roles)
  • Paid parental leave
  • DEI groups (B.L.A.C.K. @ Enova, HOLA @ Enova, Women @ Enova, Pride @ Enova, South Asians @ Enova, APEX @ Enova, and Parents @ Enova)
