What Are Remote Jobs in the Film Industry?

Remote jobs in the film industry include a wide variety of positions, ranging from editors and sound mixers to designers and writers. Almost any technical position not performed during filming and production can be done remotely, though it certainly more common for some roles than others. Scriptwriters frequently work remotely, as do various technical professionals like video editors, animators, and sound designers. Your duties and responsibilities depend on your position, and those of a visual effects artist are vastly different from a writer. As a remote film worker, you must have excellent communication skills and a reliable internet connection to receive and upload your creative work.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Film Editor, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Film Editor, you need strong video editing skills, a solid understanding of storytelling, and typically a background in film production or digital media. Familiarity with industry-standard editing software such as Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, or DaVinci Resolve is essential, along with experience using cloud-based collaboration tools. Excellent time management, attention to detail, and clear communication are crucial soft skills for coordinating with remote teams and meeting project deadlines. These skills and qualities ensure high-quality, cohesive film projects delivered efficiently in a remote work environment.

What are some common challenges faced by remote film professionals, and how can they be addressed?

Remote film professionals often encounter challenges related to communication, collaboration, and technical limitations. Coordinating with directors, editors, and other crew members across different time zones can lead to delays and misunderstandings. Reliable high-speed internet, clear project management tools, and regular video meetings are essential to ensure smooth collaboration. Adopting cloud-based file sharing and workflow solutions also helps maintain project continuity and quality, even when working from separate locations.

What are remote film jobs?

Remote film jobs are positions within the film industry that can be performed from locations outside of traditional film studios, often from home or other remote environments. These roles include video editors, screenwriters, animators, visual effects artists, and other creative or technical positions that primarily use digital tools. Remote film jobs enable professionals to collaborate with production teams worldwide through online platforms, making filmmaking more accessible and flexible. The rise of digital technology and high-speed internet has expanded opportunities for remote work in the film sector.

Job description

JOB BRIEF

The Director of IT will have the opportunity to lead a talented team of IT professionals responsible for supporting the cloud-based IT Infrastructure of a rapidly scaling software development company. Reporting directly to the Chief Information Security Officer & Head of IT, this leader will be responsible for defining and driving the future of GreenSlate’s IT infrastructure by identifying and helping set strategy, envisioning complex ecosystems, and inspiring teams to push the boundaries of what’s possible. This leader will possess a clear vision of best-practice IT methodologies and have the courage to pursue innovative approaches to make GreenSlate’s technology programs more efficient, resilient, and cutting-edge.

This position will have an enormous impact on our success by ensuring not only that the company can grow and work efficiently, but also by ensuring that the AWS infrastructure provides a dependable platform for our flagship web application to meet our clients’ accounting and payroll needs.

This role is remote within the United States.

WHO WE ARE

GreenSlate is the fastest-growing provider of technology and business solutions for media productions. We provide the most advanced technology for production accounting and entertainment payroll. Our innovative cloud-based platform is evolving the entertainment industry’s back-office by replacing inefficient paper-based processes with digital solutions. The studios, film franchises, independent producers, and content creators we serve benefit from greater efficiencies, better access to data, and cost savings, and they minimize their impact on the environment. GreenSlate offers a full range of payroll, software application, production accounting, tax credit management, ACA compliance & benefits, production insurance, and consulting services. To learn more about the productions we partner with, please visit greenslate.com.

WHAT WE EXPECT FROM YOU

IT Operations & Infrastructure

  • Lead and continuously improve IT service delivery across a 200+ person distributed remote workforce, ensuring consistent SLAs, first-call resolution rates, and end-user satisfaction.
  • Own the health, performance, and lifecycle of GreenSlate's endpoint fleet, including patch management, imaging, remote remediation, and hardware provisioning.
  • Oversee automated onboarding, offboarding, and device lifecycle management.
  • Partner with business stakeholders on internal systems architecture, access management, and IT-adjacent cloud services (e.g., AWS, Google Workspace, Azure, M365).

AI Adoption & Business Process Automation

  • Apply an automation-first lens to every IT workflow: onboarding sequences, ticket triage, patch deployment, reporting, and SaaS provisioning should be automated by default, manual by exception.
  • Evaluate and recommend emerging AI and automation tools that can accelerate IT operations or deliver measurable business value.

IT Security Collaboration

  • Serve as a key operational partner to the CISO on security initiatives, translating security policy into operational IT controls, configurations, and staff behaviors.
  • Own vulnerability response workflows for IT-managed infrastructure, coordinating with the Information Security team on CVE triage, remediation timelines, and change management.
  • Support SOC audit readiness by maintaining accurate asset inventories, access records, and change logs within Jira and Rippling.
  • Ensure security tooling is deployed on endpoints and servers, and integrated with Jira-based incident workflows.

Team Leadership & Stakeholder Management

  • Directly manage and develop a team of helpdesk administrators and sysadmins, fostering a culture of ownership, continuous improvement, and measurable outcomes.
  • Conduct regular 1:1s, performance reviews, and career development conversations; actively mentor team members toward growth opportunities.
  • Partner with department heads to understand evolving technology needs and deliver solutions that scale with the business.
  • Define, track, and report to senior leadership on IT KPIs, including ticket SLAs, First Call Resolution rate, fleet compliance, patch coverage, and automation ROI, on a recurring basis.
  • Oversee the IT and SaaS portfolio budget, identifying cost reduction and consolidation opportunities without compromising capability or security.
WHO YOU ARE

Overall Experience & Qualifications

  • 7+ years in IT infrastructure, systems administration, or IT operations roles, with at least 4 years in a management capacity.
  • Demonstrated experience leading IT in a remote-first or distributed environment; experience with a multi-country workforce is a strong plus.
  • Deep working knowledge of Kaseya VSA or equivalent RMM platforms for fleet management, scripting, and patch automation.
  • Hands-on experience with Google Workspace administration at the enterprise level (OU structure, MDM, Vault, shared drives, admin console).
  • Experience with ITSM platforms (Jira Service Management strongly preferred), including ticket workflows, SLA configuration, and reporting.
  • Familiarity with internal IT use cases: IAM, SSO, EC2, S3, and VPN/network connectivity.
  • Working knowledge of EDR platforms and broader endpoint security posture management.
  • Experience implementing or managing device lifecycle programs, procurement, provisioning, asset tracking, and EOL, at 200+ device scale.
  • Strong project management skills: capable of running concurrent initiatives across teams with clear milestones, owners, and accountability.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field; equivalent experience considered.

AI & Automation Fluency

  • You use AI tools daily, not experimentally. You can articulate how you've used AI to accelerate a project, reduce manual work, or solve a problem.
  • Direct experience with enterprise AI platforms (Claude, Copilot, or equivalent), including policy development, rollout, and user enablement.
  • Hands-on experience with no-code/low-code automation platforms (n8n, Zapier, Make, or equivalent), you have built real automations, not just configured templates.
  • Ability to write or review automation scripts (PowerShell, Bash, Python) to support fleet management, provisioning, and IT operations workflows.
  • Comfort evaluating AI/automation ROI: you can estimate time savings, reduction in error rates, and business impact for proposed automations.

Leadership & Communication

  • Operates with a service mentality and executive presence: you're as effective in a board update as you are troubleshooting with a helpdesk technician.
  • Bring a data-driven approach to decision-making. You define metrics, build dashboards, and let outcomes speak.
  • Proactive communicator: you surface risks early, document decisions, and keep stakeholders informed without being prompted.
  • Thrives in ambiguity: GreenSlate is a growing company; some processes are still being built, and you see that as an opportunity rather than a gap.
WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT FROM US
  • Compensation that reflects your value: Competitive salary packages tailored to your experience with opportunities for regular reviews and raises
  • Comprehensive Benefits: Benefits that go beyond the basics, including a matching 401(k), Employee Assistance Program/mental health support, accident insurance, wellness discounts and perks through the Holisticly platform
  • Full-Time Remote Flexibility: Enjoy working remotely with all the tools and support needed to stay connected and productive
  • Impactful Work: Be part of projects that make a difference in the entertainment industry, with a direct influence on shaping our future and making tangible change
  • A Thriving, Collaborative Culture: Join a team that values open communication and creativity. Quality, Urgency, Innovation, Service, and Collaboration drive everything we do backed by access to leading AI tools so you can work smarter, not harder
