Hunt Utility Services is a privately held company providing management and support services for Sharyland Utilities, L.L.C., a Texas-based electric transmission utility.  We are committed to providing safe, reliable, and efficient transmission and substation services, ensuring operational excellence, and investing to support the infrastructure needs of the Electric Reliability Council of Texas grid.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Director of Operations, the Power Systems Engineer provides technical and analytical support to the operations and maintenance team. The role applies engineering expertise to transmission equipment maintenance, compliance programs, asset life extension, SCADA and operational technology, and data-driven reliability initiatives. 

Responsibilities

  • Develop plans, specifications, evaluations, and design standards; perform engineering studies supporting the design, operation, and maintenance of the transmission system.
  • Develop and manage maintenance and testing programs for transmission equipment and systems.
  • Lead asset condition assessments and substation life extension projects; develop replacement plans, business justifications, scopes of work, budgets, and schedules in coordination with engineering and construction teams.
  • Design and deploy SCADA, telemetry, and analytical tools to improve real-time monitoring, data acquisition, and remote-control capabilities across the transmission network.
  • Develop data analytics, condition monitoring, and predictive maintenance programs to improve asset performance and reliability.
  • Support development and continuous improvement of the Operational Management System (OMS), including procedures, performance metrics, and audit frameworks.
  • Implement and manage compliance programs for applicable NERC, ERCOT, and state reliability standards (including CIP, PRC, FAC, and Texas Infrastructure and Reliability regulations).
  • Develop training for transmission personnel on applicable standards, regulations, and best practices.
  • Ensure record keeping and retention meets regulatory, internal, and other requirements.
  • Collaborate with peers and operations personnel to identify and resolve practical problems in transmission design, maintenance, and compliance.
  • Manage special projects as assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Skills

  • Excellent organizational and communication skills, written and verbal.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and make sound, independent decisions.
  • Self-directed, professionally mature, and service-oriented.
  • Valid Texas driver's license and clean driving record.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365 applications.
  • Experience with data analytics platforms (e.g., Power BI, Python, OSI PI, or equivalent); familiarity with AI-assisted or machine learning tools applied to asset management or predictive maintenance is a plus.
  • Working knowledge of SCADA systems, RTU/IED communications, and telemetry protocols relevant to transmission operations.
  • Familiarity with ISO-based or equivalent operational management system frameworks is a plus.

Required Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or electrical engineering technology from an ABET-accredited program or a program with recognized equivalency.
  • 5+ years of post-graduate or combined technical experience in electric transmission or a related field.
  • EIT/FE (Engineer in Training - Registration Preferred, Fundamentals of Engineering - Required).
  • PE (Professional Engineer) registration preferred.

Working Conditions

  • Works in both outdoor and office environments.
  • Travel up to 25%.
  • May provide technical support to field technicians during maintenance and restoration activities.
  • May supervise maintenance and construction projects.
