Job description

Metric Engineering, Inc. is seeking entry level/junior scientist candidates with 0-3 years of professional experience for a full-time Environmental Scientist or Environmental Specialist position based out of our South Florida (Miami) office. The ideal candidate will possess a B.S or similar degree in environmental science or engineering, and offer familiarity with south Florida ecosystems, flora, and fauna. Overall, the position entails providing statewide support across a wide variety of Metric projects involving wetlands, tree resources, mangroves, seagrasses, environmental permitting, contamination reviews, threatened/endangered species surveys, construction compliance monitoring, and NEPA documentation. Salary and benefits are industry competitive.
The position entails a hybrid work environment (mix of office, remote, and field) and work is largely based in Broward County, so proximity/access is essential. Please submit a cover letter along with your resume when applying for this position.
Day-to-Day:
  • Field surveys and site inspections
  • GIS analysis
  • Regulatory code interpretation/application
  • Environmental documentation and background research
  • Data collection, processing, filing, and analysis
  • Technical report writing/editing
  • Coordination with regulatory agencies
Required Qualifications:
  • Resident of Broward County (or southern Palm Beach County/northern Miami Dade County)
  • Education: B.S. or B.A. degree in natural or environmental sciences or planning (or similar field)
  • Botanical training or extensive coursework concentration (wetlands, trees, landscaping, etc.)
  • Excellent technical writing and communication skills
  • Ability to work extended hours outside in south Florida weather
  • Ability to complete overnight/multi-night remote field assignments
  • Florida driverโ€™s license
Preferred Capabilities:
  • MS Office software proficiency
  • Experience with desktop softwares (not web-based programs)
  • Ability to identify Floridaโ€™s native and exotic flora/fauna
  • Familiarity with ArcGIS and/or GPS data collection
Other Helpful Skills/Education:
  • Rescue/First Aid training
  • Florida Master Naturalist training
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish)
  • Familiarity with South Florida geography/roadways
  • CADD or MicroStation familiarity
