Job description

Job Description: Regional Environmental Coordinator
Reports to: VP, Environmental Management & Strategy


Location: Remote


Description: The Regional Environmental Coordinator's core responsibility is to ensure compliance at our facilities located within their region of responsibility, plus assist in other regions as needed or assigned. This individual will work with the VP, Environmental Management & Strategy to determine impact of regulatory changes, manage permit renewals, obtain new permits as needed, and ensure that facilities comply with environmental laws, regulations, policies, and procedures while supporting facility efforts and goals for safety, production, and budgets.

Responsibilities:

  1. Ensure facility compliance with Federal and State environmental laws, regulations, and site-specific permits at multiple facilities within assigned Region as required.
  2. Integrate environmental requirements into business operating practices, procedures, and decisions.
  3. Provide technical permitting, permit compliance, environmental, and regulatory support to facility management and engineering personnel. Knowledge of Federal and various State requirements for air permitting, air permit compliance reporting, wastewater permitting and reporting, stormwater permitting and compliance, and EPCRA (Tier II and TRI) reporting required.
  4. Help maintain the environmental management system for each facility in the assigned Region.
  5. Monitor environmental law and regulation changes, facility changes, and permit renewals for impacts to operations. Subsequently, implement actions to maintain compliance through permitting, plan development and implementation, or operational controls as needed to ensure continued compliance of our facilities.
  6. Assist facility management in resolution of environmental issues and, if needed, response to environmental agencies.
  7. Assist facilities with environmental training and records for regulatory compliance or as specific plans require. Example: stormwater pollution prevention plan training, inspections, or sampling/testing as required.
  8. Conduct site visits in order to identify compliance gaps and assist facilities with corrective actions.
  9. Assist facilities with maintaining recordkeeping, reporting, and other duties as needed.
  10. Work with the VP, Environmental Management & Strategy to move the company towards environmental excellence.

Requirements:

  1. Bachelor of Science in a technical field. Preference given to chemical or environmental engineer degree holders. Other advanced science, engineering or environmental degrees acceptable.
  2. At least 5 years' experience developing or managing environmental compliance programs in an industrial setting or as a consultant.
  3. Experience in multi-media environmental compliance at a facility level.
  4. Excellent time management skills, self-motivated, and self-directed.
  5. Travel required.
  6. Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Preference will be given to those:

  1. With 10 plus years' experience.
  2. With paper mill, corrugating facility, and/or packaging experience.
  3. With experience managing environmental compliance programs.
  4. With knowledge or experience related to multiple state regulatory requirements.
  5. With experience in Title V permitting and compliance, minor air source permitting and compliance, wastewater reporting and compliance, TRI reporting, Tier II reporting, and stormwater permitting and compliance.
  6. With experience maintaining environmental management and information systems.
  7. Expertise in New York State and New York City environmental regulations is highly desirable
