What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Remote Environmental Engineering position, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Environmental Engineer, you need a solid foundation in environmental science and engineering principles, typically with a bachelor's or master's degree in environmental engineering or a related field. Familiarity with tools such as GIS software, modeling applications (like AutoCAD or MATLAB), and regulatory frameworks (such as EPA standards) is often required, along with relevant certifications like Professional Engineer (PE) licensure. Strong communication, project management, and problem-solving skills are important, especially for collaborating with distributed teams and stakeholders virtually. These skills ensure effective analysis, compliance, and the successful execution of projects while working remotely.

What are typical daily responsibilities for someone in a remote environmental engineering position?

In a remote environmental engineering role, you can expect to spend your days conducting data analysis, preparing technical reports, and developing environmental assessment or remediation plans using digital tools. Collaboration with team members, clients, and regulatory agencies often happens through video calls, emails, and project management platforms. You may also be responsible for modeling environmental impacts, reviewing regulatory compliance documents, and advising on sustainable design practices. While fieldwork may occasionally be required, most work is completed independently from your remote location. This structure allows for flexibility while maintaining a high level of technical and collaborative output.

What is a Remote Environmental Engineering job?

A Remote Environmental Engineering job involves designing, assessing, and implementing environmental solutions while working from a remote location. Engineers in this role focus on sustainability, pollution control, environmental impact assessments, and regulatory compliance using digital tools and remote collaboration platforms. The role - what you'll do

Barr is seeking a process engineer to join our team. In this hybrid/remote role, you will support multidisciplinary project teams within our process engineering practice group on mineral and chemical processing projects. Your work will involve process design and analysis for base and precious metals, industrial minerals, evaporites, coal, chemicals, and fuels.

You will contribute to developing process flow diagrams and piping and instrumentation diagrams, performing mass and energy balance modeling, supporting laboratory and pilot plant testing, and preparing technical reports and specifications. This role plays a key part in delivering high-quality engineering solutions that support project success and client outcomes.

The ideal candidate is a strong analytical thinker who is detail-oriented and collaborative, with a proactive approach to problem-solving. They are adaptable, communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders, and are motivated to support both technical excellence and client service.

Your impact - key responsibilities

  • Process design and analysis: perform process calculations, develop mass and energy balances, and support process modeling to inform engineering design decisions.

  • Process documentation: develop process flow diagrams (PFDs) and piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs) to clearly communicate design intent.

  • Technical reporting and specifications: prepare technical reports, equipment specifications, and engineering documentation to support project deliverables.

  • Cost estimating and equipment sizing: assist with capital and operating cost estimates and size process equipment and piping systems.
