What does a remote entry level web developer do?

A remote entry-level web developer collaborates with a team of junior, mid-level, and senior web developers to code a computer program or web application. Unlike in-house web developers, remote entry-level web developers work from home or another remote location outside of the office. As a remote entry-level developer, your duties include running tests and debugging applications, submitting pull requests with ideas of different approaches to a problem, and pairing programming to develop software solutions to meet business needs. You must spend time learning your company’s code base and workflow. As you gain the knowledge base and skills to understand the company’s systems, you can take on additional responsibilities and more complex assignments.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote entry level web developer?

To thrive as a Remote Entry Level Web Developer, you need a solid understanding of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and foundational programming principles, often backed by a degree or coding bootcamp experience. Familiarity with version control systems like Git, basic knowledge of frameworks such as React or Angular, and exposure to collaborative platforms like GitHub are commonly expected. Strong problem-solving abilities, self-motivation, and effective written communication help you stand out, especially when working independently. These skills and qualities are crucial to efficiently deliver quality code, collaborate remotely, and adapt to evolving project requirements.

What are some common challenges faced by remote entry level web developers, and how can they be addressed?

Remote entry level web developers often encounter challenges such as feeling isolated from the team, managing their time effectively without direct supervision, and staying updated with fast-evolving technologies. To overcome these, it's important to proactively communicate with team members using collaboration tools, set clear daily goals, and participate in virtual meetings or code reviews. Additionally, leveraging online resources and seeking feedback can help accelerate learning and integration into the development team.

Can I be a remote entry level web developer with no experience?

Remote entry level web developer positions often do not require extensive experience and may accept candidates with basic knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript gained through self-study or online courses. Building a portfolio of projects and learning relevant tools like version control can improve chances of securing such roles. Employers may also value problem-solving skills and a willingness to learn over formal experience at this level.

Job description

About Us
At You.com, we are building the AI Search Infrastructure that powers modern AI systems. Our goal is to create the trusted knowledge layer that agents, applications, and enterprises rely on to retrieve real-time, accurate, and citation-backed information.
Our platform combines proprietary vertical indexes with LLM-optimized retrieval systems to power AI agents, applications, and enterprise workflows. We are solving hard problems across search, large language models, and large-scale infrastructure to make AI systems more reliable, transparent, and useful.
Our team includes engineers, researchers, product builders, and operators who care about solving meaningful problems and delivering real-world impact. Whether you are improving core infrastructure, shaping product experiences, or helping bring new AI capabilities to market, your work will help define how modern AI finds and uses knowledge.
About the Role
As our Developer Marketing Lead, you will own how the developer world discovers, understands, and adopts You.com's web search APIs. You will sit at the intersection of product, DevRel, and marketing, turning our technical differentiation into developer awareness and inbound pipeline.
You will report directly to the CPO and work closely with our DevRel, product, partnerships and marketing teams. You own the developer narrative and the content engine that drives it.
This role is for someone who has shipped technical content that moved the needle, understands how developers evaluate and adopt APIs, and can build a presence in the AI developer community from a position of genuine technical credibility.
Responsibilities
  • Own developer awareness across the full funnel: from first exposure on X or HN to first API call to production deployment
  • Produce technical content that earns trust: benchmark analyses, integration tutorials, launch posts, and comparison guides written for an engineering audience
  • Build and maintain a presence in the AI developer community on X, LinkedIn, and GitHub, engaging authentically and driving visibility to You.com's technical differentiation
  • Execute co-marketing deliverables with customers and partners: joint blog posts, demos, co-branded tutorials, and social amplification
  • Translate product launches into developer narratives with clear proof points and concrete use cases
  • Work with our DevRel team to develop demo repos, example workflows, and integration guides that reduce time-to-first-call
  • Instrument the developer funnel and use data to identify where awareness or activation breaks down
  • Represent You.com at AI developer conferences, workshops, and community events

Qualifications
  • Personally shipped technical artifacts (benchmark post, tutorial, integration guide, OSS project) that generated measurable inbound or community engagement
  • Deep understanding of the developer evaluation loop for APIs: how developers discover, trial, and commit to infrastructure
  • Active presence on X and LinkedIn with a technical audience
  • Active GitHub presence
  • Experience working alongside or within a partnerships motion, producing content and assets that support partner relationships
  • Strong writing skills for technical audiences; can explain tradeoffs clearly without over-simplifying
  • Data-driven approach to content prioritization: knows which outputs to double down on and which to cut
  • Background as a developer, technical PM, or DevRel engineer; has built with APIs and understands what friction actually feels like
  • Experience in AI infrastructure, developer tools, or API-first companies strongly preferred
  • 20K+ followers across developer or AI-focused platforms is a plus

Our salary bands are structured based on a combination of geographic tiers and internal leveling. Compensation is determined by multiple factors assessed during the interview process, with the final offer reflecting these considerations.
Salary Band
$200,000-$240,000 USD
Company Perks:
  • Hubs in San Francisco and New York City offering regular in-person gatherings and co-working sessions
  • Flexible PTO with U.S. holidays observed and a week shutdown in December to rest and recharge*
  • A competitive health insurance plan covers 100% of the policyholder and 75% for dependents*
  • 12 weeks of paid parental leave in the US*
  • 401k program, 3% match - vested immediately!*
  • $500 work-from-home stipend to be used up to a year of your start date*
  • $600 technology stipend to support a portion of our hybrid/remote team's cell phone and internet expenses*
  • $1,200 per year Health & Wellness Allowance to support your personal goals*
  • The chance to collaborate with a team at the forefront of AI research

*Certain perks and benefits are limited to full-time employees only
