GIS Specialist (United States Geological Survey)
Launch your career in the geospatial field by displaying your passion for the world around you in an interactive role that allows you to perform the hands-on geospatial science and cartographic work that's involved in the continuous development of The National Map.
As a GIS Specialist, you will be joining XTS's highly capable and collaborative Geospatial Technical Services team supporting the United States Geological Survey (USGS) and their Seamless 1 Meter (S1M) Digital Elevation Model development efforts. In this fully remote, entry-level role, you will be applying your strong knowledge of geospatial and cartographic concepts and data, receive professional hands-on experience with the ArcGIS software suite, and be an adaptable teammate in a collaborative work environment.
Required Skills and Qualifications
To be considered for this position, the desired candidate must demonstrate:
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field and 0-2 years of relevant work experience
  • Knowledge of GIS and cartographic concepts
    • Includes geospatial data, coordinate systems, spatial databases, geoprocessing, etc.
    • Includes scale, features, data integration, symbolization, etc.
  • Previous experience with LiDAR, global mapper, or ArcGIS Pro is not required, but is a plus
  • Ability to interact effectively with a variety of technical staff both in person and remotely
  • Clear, concise, timely, and accurate communication and ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and produce quality deliverables
  • Ability to be analytical and apply problem solving skills and use critical thinking skills
