Job Title: Senior Enterprise Architect

Location: Remote (Travel to DMV area when need arises)

Summary:

We are seeking a Senior Enterprise Architect to support a confidential federal government customer's Digital Modeling and Engineering (DM&E) effort. The successful candidate will help modernize how the customer describes, analyzes, and governs mission systems by shifting from static, document-centric architecture products to authoritative, model-based descriptions of the enterprise.

This role serves as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) and principal technical authority responsible for developing the enterprise architecture guidance, instructions, and standards that govern architecture practice across the customer's enterprise. The architect will provide highly qualified, master-level performance-coaching expertise; author standards; model to those standards; evaluate others' deliverables; and directly inform risk assessments, capability decisions, and resource allocation.

The position is highly visible and collaborative, working with government leads, systems engineers, capability managers, and program offices to translate strategic intent into rigorous, analyzable models. The work is inherently multi-threaded, with priorities and assignments shifting in response to emerging client needs.

Responsibilities:

Enterprise Architecture Guidance and Governance

  • Serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME), providing master-level performance coaching and expert guidance to government stakeholders, architects, and modeling teams.
  • Develop, publish, and maintain enterprise architecture guidance, instructions, standards, and style guides that apply across the customer's enterprise.
  • Define modeling conventions, naming standards, metamodel usage rules, and quality criteria that ensure architecture products are consistent, interoperable, and reusable across programs.
  • Advise senior government stakeholders on architecture policy, digital engineering strategy, and the transition from document-based to model-based architecture practice.
  • Establish and operate governance mechanisms, architecture review boards, model configuration control, and product acceptance criteria to enforce standards across distributed modeling teams.

Architecture Development

  • Develop strategic, business, data, and solution architectures spanning the enterprise, mission, and system layers.
  • Produce enterprise architecture artifacts conforming to the Department of Defense Architecture Framework (DoDAF) and the Unified Architecture Framework (UAF), including operational, capability, services, resources, standards, and data/information viewpoints.
  • Build and maintain integrated architecture models in CAMEO (Cameo Enterprise Architecture / Cameo Systems Modeler), applying SysML 2.0 and the Unified Architecture Framework Modeling Language (UAFML).
  • Apply and tailor recognized architecture and systems engineering methodologies, including the Object-Oriented Systems Engineering Method (OOSEM) and the UAF Development Method, selecting the approach best matched to the problem, stakeholder set, and decision timeline.
  • Ensure traceability from strategic drivers and mission needs through capabilities, operational activities, services, systems, and data, so that every element in the model earns its place.

Analysis, Risk, and Resource Support

  • Support the evaluation of architectural products as part of risk and resource analysis, assessing model completeness, correctness, internal consistency, and fitness for the decision being supported.
  • Perform architecture-based analysis, capability gap and overlap identification, dependency and interoperability analysis, and impact assessment to inform investment, divestment, and portfolio prioritization decisions.
  • Translate model-derived findings into clear, defensible recommendations and briefings for technical and non-technical audiences, including senior government leadership.
  • Review architecture products submitted by programs and vendors, providing written assessments against published customer standards and identifying risk exposure introduced by architectural decisions.

Automation and Technical Leadership

  • Where beneficial, develop CAMEO scripts, macros, validation rules, and automated report generators to enforce standards, reduce manual modeling effort, and improve product quality.
  • Explore and prototype AI agent capabilities that assist with model construction, artifact generation, consistency checking, and architecture query, helping the customer scale its digital engineering practice.
  • Mentor junior and mid-level architects and modelers, raising the technical proficiency of the broader architecture community.
  • Represent the customer in working groups, standards bodies, and cross-agency forums addressing architecture and digital engineering.

Requirements:

  • Doctoral degree in Computer Science, Enterprise Architecture, Systems Engineering, performance coaching, or another applicable field.
  • At least 10 years of relevant practical experience in enterprise architecture, digital engineering, systems engineering, performance coaching, or a closely related discipline.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform as a highly qualified, master-level performance-coaching resource and Subject Matter Expert (SME).
  • Demonstrated knowledge of strategic, business, data, and solution architecture development, and the ability to work coherently across all four.
  • Hands-on experience with the CAMEO modeling tool (Cameo Enterprise Architecture and/or Cameo Systems Modeler).
  • Working knowledge of and practical experience with SysML 2.0 and the Unified Architecture Framework Modeling Language (UAFML).
  • Experience developing enterprise architecture artifacts for DoDAF and UAF.
  • Knowledge of multiple architecture development methodologies, such as OOSEM and the UAF Development Method, with the judgment to select and tailor among them.
  • Experience evaluating architectural products to support risk analysis, resource analysis, or investment decision-making.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to author formal guidance documents and brief senior stakeholders.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively at different levels, working directly with both technical architects and senior government leaders.
  • Active Secret clearance, or the ability to obtain and maintain one.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Professional enterprise architecture certification, such as FEAC Certified Enterprise Architect (CEA) or an equivalent credential.
  • Experience developing CAMEO scripts, macros, validation suites, or custom report templates to automate modeling and quality assurance tasks.
  • Experience with AI agent development, including agentic workflows, tool integration, or large language model applications applied to engineering, modeling, or documentation tasks.
  • Prior experience supporting federal civilian, Department of Homeland Security, or Department of Defense architecture and digital engineering programs.
  • Experience authoring or contributing to enterprise-level architecture policy, instructions, or standards adopted across an organization.
  • Familiarity with model-based systems engineering (MBSE) at scale, including model federation, configuration management, and authoritative-source-of-truth practices.
  • OMG Certification in UAF and SysML (Modeler).
