COMPENSATION INFORMATION The salary range(s) represents our good faith estimate for the role at this time. Salary Range
  • Sr. Engineer: $108,000 - $123,000
  • Sr. Engineer II: $125,000 - $137,000

Overview
The Senior Market Services Engineer roles (Sr. Engineer and Sr. Engineer II) ensure the accuracy and integrity of the data supporting Congestion Rent, Greenhouse Gas (GHG), Market Transmission Use (MTU), and Western Resource Adequacy Program (WRAP) operations in SPP Markets+. These positions translate business and regulatory requirements into application criteria and validate system releases. Both roles also support organizational credibility through accurate communication with internal teams and external stakeholders.
Core Responsibilities
  • Analyze and report on Congestion Rent, GHG, MTU, and WRAP operations
  • Coordinate with Markets+ Transmission Service Providers and Market Participants to verify Transmission Service Reservations for accurate CRT representation
  • Support and maintain GHG tracking and reporting processes, including responding to RMS tickets
  • Support annual and intrayear MTU updates
  • Translate governing document language into application requirements and support testing of releases
  • Test application functionality and identify/correct data issues
  • Create and maintain internal process and procedure documentation
  • Create and maintain requirements documentation for primary applications
  • Provide analytical insights and engage with stakeholder groups
  • Coordinate market design changes and technical implementation across Markets+
  • Prepare and deliver technical documentation, presentations, and analyses
  • Apply organized wholesale market rules to business functions
  • Facilitate market design changes through the SPP stakeholder process

Qualifications
Education Requirement (All Levels)
Bachelor's Degree of Science in Engineering, this degree should: Be from a university that meets the requirements to sit for the Professional Engineering exam (in Arkansas, that is most typically a degree from an ABET accredited university or a graduate degree from a college that has an ABET accreditation). Degree should be in a calculus-based engineering field and preferred degree programs are Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Systems Engineering
Qualifications by Level
Sr. Engineer
โ€ข 5 years of relevant Engineering experience, Professional Engineer License may satisfy one year of experience requirement.
Sr. Engineer II
โ€ข 9 years of relevant Engineering experience; Professional Engineer License or Advanced degree in related field of study may satisfy one (1) year of experience requirement. Two (2) years of experience may satisfy both a Professional Engineer License and an Advanced degree in a related field.
Sr Engineer Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in power operations or market design in the Western Interconnection.
  • Experience in reserving and scheduling transmission service
  • Advanced degree in economics, math or other related field of study
  • Experience in utility operations, RTO operations or energy trading
  • Experience with data manipulation and analysis of large data sets
  • Sound understanding of the SPP Open Access Transmission Tariff, FERC & NERC governing documents, SPP By-Laws, SPP Criteria and the SPP Committee structure

Sr Engineer II Preferred Qualifications
  • A Professional Engineer License
  • Advanced degree in related field of study
  • Electric Utility Industry experience
  • Proficient with most SPP power systems analysis tools with a solid command of several SPP tools and/or processes
  • Sound understanding of the SPP Open Access Transmission Tariff, FERC & NERC governing documents, SPP By-Laws, SPP Criteria and the SPP Committee structure

Other Requirements
  • Competent with the administrative and communication tools for word processing, spread sheet development and time keeping, as a minimum
  • Strong knowledge of several power systems analysis tools applicable to power system steady state, dynamic, short circuit, or database management systems
  • Strong inter-personal and team work skills along with good written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent working skills with communication and data handling software such as Microsoft Officeยฉ Word, Excel, Access
  • Proficient at organizing and conducting technical and analytical studies
  • Knowledge of electric market concepts and ability to apply understanding in unique analysis

Expected Hours of Work:
  • This is a full-time position.
  • The typical work schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
  • Work hours may vary based on organizational and operational needs, as determined by management.
  • Occasional extended or nonstandard hours may be required.

Travel Requirement
  • This position requires moderate travel (10-15%).
