Title:Energy Engineer
Location:New Brunswick, NJ (Hybrid) with majority Remote Work and occasional travel to client sites throughout New Jersey
Job Type:Full-Time
How You'll Get to Contribute:mcfa is seeking a motivated and experienced Energy Engineer to support the implementation of a major utility-sponsored clean energy initiative. This role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact by helping commercial and industrial customers reduce energy consumption, improve operational efficiency, and contribute to a more sustainable future. As a trusted steward of utility ratepayer funds, you will play a critical role in evaluating and managing energy efficiency incentive applications, verifying project implementation, and supporting customers, contractors, and internal stakeholders throughout the program lifecycle. This position combines is ideal for professionals who enjoy technical problem-solving, project management, customer engagement, and energy efficiency consulting.


What You'll Do:

  • Review, evaluate, and process energy efficiency incentive applications to ensure program compliance and accuracy.
  • Manage projects and applications through all phases of the incentive lifecycle, from initial submission through final approval and payment.
  • Conduct field inspections and site visits to verify proper installation and implementation of energy efficiency measures.
  • Identify and recommend energy-saving opportunities within commercial and industrial facilities.
  • Collaborate with customers, contractors, and program stakeholders to support successful project execution.
  • Deliver virtual and on-site training sessions for internal teams and contractor partners.
  • Develop training materials, presentations, and technical documentation to support program objectives.
  • Maintain accurate records, project documentation, and reporting requirements.
  • Support continuous improvement efforts related to program operations, customer experience, and energy savings outcomes


Who You Are:

Required

  • 5+ years of professional experience in HVAC design, energy engineering, energy efficiency programs, or related consulting engineering fields.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Working knowledge of one or more building system disciplines, including mechanical, electrical, plumbing, architectural, or structural systems.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite applications, especially Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively engage customers, contractors, and project stakeholders.
  • Experience developing and delivering training materials, presentations, and educational content.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects while meeting deadlines and program milestones.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and have access to reliable transportation for travel between New Brunswick, NJ, Haddonfield, NJ, and other project locations as required.
  • Must be a New Jersey resident or establish New Jersey residency.

Preferred

  • Experience performing energy savings calculations, utility rate analysis, or energy modeling.
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Energy Engineering, or a related field. Equivalent education and relevant experience will also be considered.
  • Certified Energy Manager (CEM) and/or Professional Engineer (PE) credentials.
  • Prior experience in design-build, energy services, performance contracting, or utility energy efficiency programs.
  • Familiarity with commercial and industrial energy efficiency technologies and incentive programs.
