Remote Embedded Security information

What is a remote embedded security professional?

A Remote Embedded Security professional specializes in protecting embedded systems—such as IoT devices, medical equipment, automotive control units, and industrial machines—from cyber threats. These professionals work remotely to design, implement, and monitor security measures that safeguard both the hardware and software components of embedded systems. Their responsibilities often include vulnerability assessments, secure coding, firmware analysis, and compliance with security standards. They frequently collaborate with development teams to ensure that security is integrated into the product lifecycle from the outset.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote embedded security engineer?

To thrive as a Remote Embedded Security Engineer, you need expertise in embedded systems, cybersecurity principles, and proficiency in programming languages like C/C++, typically backed by a degree in computer science, electrical engineering, or a related field. Familiarity with security testing tools (e.g., fuzzers, static code analyzers), secure boot processes, and relevant certifications such as CISSP or CEH is highly valued. Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and effective remote communication are crucial soft skills for this role. These skills ensure the development and maintenance of secure embedded devices, which is vital for protecting sensitive data and system integrity in increasingly connected environments.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals in remote embedded security roles, and how can they be addressed?

Professionals in remote embedded security often encounter challenges such as limited physical access to devices for testing, ensuring secure communication over potentially unsecured networks, and collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams spread across different time zones. To address these challenges, it's important to leverage remote debugging tools, establish robust secure communication protocols, and maintain regular virtual meetings to stay aligned with team objectives. Strong documentation and proactive communication are also essential for troubleshooting and knowledge sharing in a distributed environment.

Job description

Embedded Software Engineer

The Opportunity:

Are you looking for an opportunity to combine your technical skills with big picture thinking to make an impact on national defense? You understand your client's environment and how to develop the right systems to support their mission. Your ability to translate real world needs into reliable embedded software makes you a key contributor to delivering client focused engineering solutions.

As an experienced embedded systems and software engineer, you will help solve complex challenges that drive the development of next generation satellite systems. You will take on a hands-on role in designing, implementing, and testing embedded software architectures that interface directly with FPGA based processing pipelines and spacecraft subsystems. You'll enhance these systems through advanced technology solutions that meet demanding space and mission requirements.

You'll apply your expertise while providing guidance to a cross-domain hardware-software team focused on digital design, verification, and system integration. In this role, you will collaborate closely with FPGA engineers, RF engineers, and systems engineers to ensure seamless interaction between embedded software components and onboard electronics. Through this work, you will help translate system level requirements into robust, real-time software implementations that enable reliable on-orbit performance.

Join our team and help shape the future of resilient space systems in support of critical national security missions.

Join us. The world can't wait.

You Have:

  • 5+ years of experience developing embedded software in C or C++

  • Experience with embedded Linux, RTOS development, or bare metal firmware

  • Experience designing software for real-time systems or high reliability applications

  • Experience integrating software with custom digital hardware such as FPGA based systems

  • Experience with software-hardware debugging using tools such as logic analyzers, oscilloscopes, or protocol analyzers

  • Experience with configuration management, automated testing, CI/CD, and automated build systems

  • Experience with software architecture design, communication interfaces such as SPI, I2C, UART, or LVDS, and hardware abstraction layers

  • Experience using scientific or analysis tools such as MATLAB or Python for algorithm development or data evaluation

  • Secret clearance

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Science

Nice If You Have:

  • Experience working with cross-functional teams and remote team members

  • Experience with space qualified embedded systems or satellite subsystem design

  • Experience with Yocto, BitBake, U Boot, or device tree development

  • Experience with embedded cybersecurity, secure boot, or trusted execution environments

  • Experience with DSP algorithms and real-time signal processing software

  • Experience with software simulation, hardware in the loop testing, or digital twin environments

  • Experience with MBSE and MBSE tools such as MagicDraw

  • Knowledge of radiation tolerant computing techniques or system hardening approaches

  • Knowledge of RF systems, telemetry or command subsystems, or spacecraft communication protocols

Clearance:
Applicants selected will be subject to a security investigation and may need to meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information; Secret clearance is required.
