Remote Elixir Jobs in Miami, FL (NOW HIRING)

Remote Elixir information

What is a remote Elixir developer?

Remote Elixir developers are software engineers who specialize in building applications using the Elixir programming language while working from a location outside of a traditional office, often from home or another remote location. Elixir is known for its scalability, concurrency, and fault-tolerance, making it popular for web applications and distributed systems. Remote Elixir developers collaborate with teams using online tools, contribute to codebases, and participate in meetings virtually. Their roles may involve backend development, API creation, and maintaining robust, high-performance systems. Working remotely allows companies to tap into global talent and offers developers flexibility in their work environment.

What are remote jobs that use Elixir?

Elixir is a general purpose programming language first introduced in 2012. It boasts impressive scalability, functionality, and fault-tolerance, and is used by several major social media companies in web and software development, although its use extends to many programming applications. Remote jobs that use Elixir include the same remote job titles applicable to other programming languages, including common titles like software engineer, developer, full-stack developer, and specialist. Your duties and responsibilities may vary depending on your exact position, but in each you must have an expert-level understanding of the Elixir programming language, common development methodologies, and experience programming for multiple platforms with different tools and languages.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote Elixir developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Elixir Developer, you need strong proficiency in functional programming, Elixir language expertise, and experience with the Phoenix framework, along with a relevant degree or equivalent experience. Familiarity with version control systems like Git, CI/CD tools, and cloud platforms such as AWS is typically required. Exceptional problem-solving abilities, self-motivation, and effective remote communication skills help you excel in distributed teams. These skills ensure efficient, scalable software development and seamless collaboration in remote work environments.

What are some unique challenges of working as a remote Elixir developer, and how can I overcome them?

As a Remote Elixir Developer, one unique challenge is effective collaboration due to time zone differences and asynchronous communication, which can slow down decision-making and troubleshooting. To overcome this, it's important to document your work thoroughly, actively participate in code reviews, and use collaboration tools like Slack or GitHub efficiently. Additionally, because Elixir is a niche language, you may encounter fewer mentors or peer developers for support, so proactively engaging with the Elixir community and participating in online forums can greatly enhance your growth and problem-solving capabilities.

What is the difference between Remote Elixir vs Remote Ruby Developer?

AspectRemote ElixirRemote Ruby Developer
Required CredentialsProficiency in Elixir, functional programming skills, often some Erlang knowledgeProficiency in Ruby, object-oriented programming skills, Rails experience common

Job description

Octagon Talent Solutions is a full-service technology recruitment and staffing company based in South Florida. We humanize technical recruitment by identifying candidates' long-term career goals and assessing cultural fit when presenting opportunities. Our focus on long-term relationships helps ensure placements that last.

Our client is a well-funded Web3 fintech startup redefining the future of real-time financial infrastructure. Our platform bridges traditional finance and decentralized systems, enabling seamless, secure, and transparent access to blockchain-powered financial services.

They’re not just building APIs — they’re creating the data rails for the decentralized economy, supporting everything from real-time transaction monitoring to decentralized asset management. With deep backing from top VCs and a founding team of fintech and blockchain veterans, we’re scaling fast — and we’re looking for core engineers to shape what comes next.

???? What You’ll Do

  • Architect, develop, and maintain real-time APIs and backend systems powering crypto trading, DeFi analytics, and digital asset tracking.
  • Build scalable microservices with NestJS and gRPC, and design APIs used by developers, trading platforms, and financial institutions.
  • Manage streaming pipelines with Kafka to process high-throughput event data from blockchains and financial markets.
  • Implement WebSocket-based services using Bun to push live updates (price feeds, wallet events, smart contract logs).
  • Store and optimize time-series data using QuestDB for hot access and ClickHouse for long-term analytics and compliance reporting.
  • Secure and orchestrate APIs through APISIX, with features like rate limiting, authentication, and request transformation.
  • Contribute to infrastructure scalability, observability, and resilience in a mission-critical, high-uptime environment.
  • Collaborate with smart contract developers, frontend engineers, and data scientists to ship features end-to-end.

???? The Tech Stack

You’ll be working with bleeding-edge tools purpose-built for real-time finance:

  • NestJS – Modular TypeScript backend framework
  • gRPC + Protobuf – Blazing fast internal service communication
  • Kafka – Event streaming for blockchain and financial data ingestion
  • Bun – Ultra-fast runtime for high-frequency WebSocket communication
  • QuestDB – Low-latency time-series database for recent data
  • ClickHouse – Scalable analytics database for long-term storage
  • APISIX – Cloud-native API Gateway

???? What We’re Looking For

  • 5+ years in backend engineering, ideally with a focus on financial systems or high-throughput platforms
  • Strong proficiency in TypeScript, Node.js, and frameworks like NestJS
  • Experience with event-driven architecture and tools like Kafka
  • Comfort working with gRPC, Protocol Buffers, and microservices
  • Knowledge of blockchain fundamentals, smart contracts, or Web3 APIs (e.g., Ethers.js, Web3.js) is a big plus
  • Solid experience with WebSockets and real-time messaging systems
  • Proven ability to design and optimize time-series data solutions
  • Familiarity with cloud-native infrastructure (Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines)
  • Security-first mindset — especially around financial and cryptographic systems
  • Self-starter attitude, with the ability to thrive in a fast-moving startup environment

???? What They Offer

  • Top-of-market salary + possible equity + crypto bonuses
  • Remote-first, async-friendly culture with flexible hours
  • The chance to work on the cutting edge of finance and Web3
  • A technical leadership role with influence over architecture and roadmap
  • Collaborative, transparent team culture with real ownership

???? Join the Future of Finance

If you’re passionate about building real-time, decentralized financial infrastructure with an elite engineering team, we’d love to meet you.
