Duties
Help

• Diagnoses causes of equipment malfunctions applying advanced electronic theory, system analysis, complex test equipment, schematic and wiring diagrams, formulas and/or theories gained through classroom and on-the-job training.
• Maintains associated antenna system transmission lines and ground plane networks for communication and navigational aid facilities.
• Participates in and conducts site surveys to determine the best location of new or relocated air traffic control facilities.
• Engineers and installs wide area networks (WAN) using line drivers and fiber optics.
• Certifies air traffic control and navigational electronic equipment in accordance with applicable regulations and standards.

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
• Required to pass a pre-employment medical screening and pass annual medical screening.
• There is a regular exposure to aircraft and generator noise and adverse weather conditions, such as, rain, snow, dust, and high winds.
• May be assigned to any shift on a rotational or continuing basis.
• Incumbent is subject to re-call at any hour or on any day to perform emergency repairs on critical equipment, so incumbent is required to obtain/maintain functioning telephone to insure availability for recall purposes.
• Must either possess or be able to obtain and maintain certification for Air Traffic Control equipment in accordance with AR 95-2 within 3 years of being appointed into the position.
• Duties of this position require the incumbent to obtain and maintain a valid state driver's license.
• This position is designated as "Drug Testing Required". Incumbent is subject to random urinalysis testing IAW DA guidelines. Incumbent must complete DA 5019.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience GS-11: One year of specialized experience which includes providing technical services by applying electronic theory or electronics engineering principles to test, and resolve operational problems on electronic equipment, systems, or components associated with air traffic control systems. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-10).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience aloneno substitution of education for experience is permitted.
Time in Grade Requirement GS-11: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-10).
