Remote Electromechanical Engineering Technology information

What are some common challenges faced by remote electromechanical engineering technology professionals, and how can they be effectively managed?

Remote Electromechanical Engineering Technology professionals often encounter challenges such as troubleshooting complex systems without on-site access, coordinating with cross-functional teams in different locations, and ensuring accurate documentation of technical issues. To manage these effectively, professionals use advanced remote diagnostic tools, engage in regular virtual meetings with team members, and adopt clear, structured communication methods. Additionally, building strong relationships with on-site personnel can help facilitate timely information exchange and problem resolution.

What is the difference between Remote Electromechanical Engineering Technology vs Remote Mechanical Engineering Technology?

Remote Electromechanical Engineering Technicians focus on integrating electrical and mechanical systems, often working on automation and robotics remotely. Remote Mechanical Engineering Technicians primarily work on mechanical system design and analysis. While both roles require technical certifications and involve remote collaboration, their focus areas differ, making each suited to specific industry needs.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote electromechanical engineering technologist, and why are they important?

A strong background in electromechanical systems, technical troubleshooting, and an associate's or bachelor's degree in engineering technology are essential for this role. Familiarity with CAD software, PLC programming, and remote diagnostic tools is typically required, along with relevant industry certifications. Excellent problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and effective communication are crucial soft skills for collaborating with remote teams and supporting clients. These competencies ensure efficient system maintenance, minimize downtime, and enable seamless remote support in complex technical environments.

What is remote electromechanical engineering technology?

Remote electromechanical engineering technology involves designing, operating, and maintaining systems that combine electrical and mechanical processes from a distance, typically using digital tools and communication networks. Professionals in this field often work with robotics, automation, and control systems to monitor and troubleshoot equipment without being physically present. This approach enables efficient maintenance, diagnostics, and operations in industries such as manufacturing, energy, and transportation, especially when sites are remote or hazardous. Remote capabilities can increase safety, reduce costs, and improve system reliability.

Job description

Asplundh Engineering Services (AES) is seeking a talented Protection & Control Engineer to join our team remotely to support our Atlanta office.

In this role, you will work on exciting projects and use your expertise to investigate, troubleshoot, and solve a wide variety of existing electric facilities, substation protection and control issues. You will also prepare protection and control schematics, wiring drawings, and relay philosophies for substation modifications and upgrades to meet client requirements.

We are looking for someone with an EIT/ PE and BSEE in power systems or a similar field, with at least 2-8 years of experience in protection/control/telecommunications for high-voltage substations. You should be familiar with design codes and standards such as NEC, NESC, NEMA, IEEE and ANSI, and proficient with MS Office applications.

Our ideal candidate has a proven track record of excelling in team-based environments and approaches all tasks with a detail-oriented mindset.

Ideal experience:

  • 5-12 years of experience in relay/protection engineering or related disciplines
  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology with a focus on Power Systems or similar
  • Knowledge of utility-based software programs such as ASPEN, SKM, EasyPower, ETAP, or other related programs
  • Programming knowledge or experience with protection relays and other substation equipment
  • Knowledge of engineering theory, practices, and procedures, including NERC requirements
  • Experience in power protection, relay design and planning

This exciting opportunity presents a flexible Remote schedule, allowing for a balance of office and remote work. At AES, you will have the privilege of working alongside highly skilled and experienced engineers, who are easily accessible to offer guidance and support. Additionally, you will have the chance to develop your career while mentoring junior members of the team. This position offers a promising path for growth and success.
