Job description

Position Title: Electrical CAD Engineer
Position Type: Full-time (Hybrid/Remote)
Position Location: Eglin AFB, Pensacola, FL

Waypoint's client is seeking a detail-oriented and skilled Electrical CAD Engineer to join their engineering team. The Electrical CAD Engineer will be responsible for creating, modifying, and maintaining electrical design drawings, schematics, wiring diagrams, and panel layouts using computer-aided design (CAD) software. This role works closely with electrical engineers, project managers, and manufacturing teams to ensure accurate, high-quality documentation that supports project execution and compliance with industry standards.
Responsibilities
  • Develop detailed electrical drawings, schematics, wiring diagrams, and panel layouts using CAD software.
  • Create and maintain electrical design documentation, including cable schedules, bills of materials (BOMs), and installation drawings.
  • Collaborate with electrical engineers to translate design concepts into production-ready drawings.
  • Revise drawings based on engineering changes, customer feedback, and field modifications.
  • Analysis and investigation of current designs including CAD, drawings, reports, and test data.
  • Resolution of findings, generation and incorporation of redlines, and production of a complete and accurate TDP.
  • Support production and developmental, integration, operational test phases.
  • Maturation of design in support of successful program delivery.
  • Integrate with program team executing within the planning, technical, and data product workflows, tooling, and standards.
  • Ensure all drawings comply with applicable electrical codes, company standards, and customer specifications.
  • Coordinate with mechanical, controls, and manufacturing teams to resolve design conflicts.
  • Maintain organized drawing revisions and document control in accordance with company procedures.
  • Assist in prototype development, testing, and design validation activities.
  • Support project teams by meeting deadlines and ensuring timely completion of deliverables.
  • Participate in design reviews and recommend improvements to increase efficiency and quality.

Required
  • Bachelor's or master's degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • 7+ years of experience in electrical drafting or electrical CAD design (experience requirements may vary by level).
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD Electrical, AutoCAD, EPLAN, SolidWorks Electrical, or similar CAD software.
  • Strong understanding of electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, control panels, and power distribution systems.
  • Familiarity with NEC, NFPA, UL, IEC, or other applicable electrical standards.
  • Ability to interpret engineering specifications and technical documentation.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
