Educational technology, which is known as EdTech for short, involves developing programs and technology tools that assist teachers in the classroom. Remote EdTech specialists build tech tools for use in a school setting, such as smart whiteboards and projector technology. You can also help teachers implement existing technology in their classroom to achieve specific educational goals. Your duties include communicating with teachers and curriculum designers to assess their needs and develop or suggest solutions. Instead of instructional software, some education technologists work on systems that measure performance or student psychology. This is a wide field, and you can find many different careers.
| Aspect | Remote Edtech | Remote Instructional Designer |
|---|---|---|
| Required Credentials | Typically a degree in education, technology, or related field; certifications in e-learning tools | Degree in education, instructional design, or related; certifications like CPT, CPLP |
| Work Environment | Online platforms, educational institutions, tech companies | Designing courses, working with subject matter experts, using LMS tools |
| Employer & Industry Usage | Edtech companies, online universities, corporate training | Educational institutions, corporate training firms, e-learning providers |
Remote Edtech roles focus on developing and managing educational technology solutions, while Remote Instructional Designers primarily create and structure online courses. Both roles require similar credentials and often work in online environments, but their core responsibilities differ in content creation versus technology management.
