POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The Senior Software Documentation Specialist develops and maintains high-quality, user-focused documentation for NOAA's portfolio of fisheries management applications. This role ensures that technical systems are accessible, understandable, and compliant with federal usability and accessibility standards.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Create, edit, and standardize user documentation produced by development teams.
- Translate complex technical concepts into clear, concise, and audience-appropriate guidance.
- Attend development and project meetings to gather requirements and system knowledge.
- Produce Section 508-compliant documentation suitable for public release on NMFS websites.
- Organize and manage documentation repositories to ensure consistency and ease of access.
- Collaborate with developers, help desk staff, and program stakeholders to validate documentation accuracy.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's degree in Technical Communication, English, Information Science, or related field.
- 6+ years of professional technical documentation experience.
- Demonstrated experience producing Section 508-compliant federal documentation.
