What does a remote editor do?

A remote editor’s job is to improve written communication for their employer. Unlike in-house editors, remote editors work from home or another location outside the office. Remote editors work on all types of written formats, such as books, articles, websites, corporate publications, training manuals, legal documents, and scientific papers. The specific tasks of an editor include correcting spelling, grammar, and punctuation errors; fact-checking; and rewriting unclear sentences. Background knowledge in the subject matter of the materials is essential for an editor to be able to take what was written and make it clear, organized, and appropriate for the target audience.

Job description

Sachs Media is hiring a Senior Account Executive to help grow its Midwest team. This role involves leading strategic communications for clients in complex, highly regulated industries, such as healthcare, clean energy, financial services, legal services, and education.

You'll manage a portfolio of 4-6 clients and serve as their primary point of contact and project manager, from planning through execution. The work spans public affairs, media relations, strategic positioning, executive thought leadership, and crisis response. Your clients answer to legislators, regulators, investors, and reporters; your job is to make sure they're ready and positioned for success.

The ideal candidate is a self-starter with a run-till-you-get-tackled mentality, strong writing, and real relationships with Midwest media and community partners.

We treat communication as a superpower for issues that matter. Our research-informed PR campaigns have secured billions for cancer research and prevention, expanded broadband access, preserved educational opportunities, and connected veterans with the benefits they've earned.

What You'll Do

  • Own the client relationship, leading day-to-day strategy, advising senior leadership, and keeping every campaign pointed at their policy goals
  • Pitch and land earned media at the local, state, and national levels, with Midwest outlets as your home turf
  • Write press releases, op-eds, and talking points that people actually read
  • Create opportunities for thought leadership, expert commentary, media events, and public announcements
  • Plan and coordinate internally on quality, deadlines, and strategy, working alongside our creative, digital, research, and advertising departments

Qualifications

  • 5+ years in public affairs, public relations, or issues-focused communications (agency experience preferred)
  • Relationships with Midwest journalists and editors, and a track record of recent coverage
  • Crisis communications and issues management experience preferred
  • Exceptional writing and editing (with and without AI)
  • Experience in highly regulated industries such as healthcare, clean energy, financial services, legal, or education
  • Bachelor's degree in communications, political science, or a related field, or equivalent experience
  • Location in Wisconsin, Minnesota, or Michigan preferred; Indiana and Ohio welcome

Pay & Benefits

  • Competitive salary and bonus opportunities
  • Health, dental, and vision insurance
  • HSA and FSA options
  • 401(k) with company match after 90 days
  • Life insurance equal to one year of salary
  • Paid time off, parental leave, and ten paid holidays, plus the entire week of December 24 through January 1 off
  • Workday ends at 2:00 PM every Friday
  • Paid birthday holiday and a personal day
  • Up to $1,000 annually for professional certifications
  • Annual work-from-home stipend
  • Fully remote with flexible schedules

Job Details

  • Full-time. Remote, based in the Midwest. Travel roughly 10%.
  • This role is open to candidates based in Wisconsin, Minnesota, Michigan, Indiana, or Ohio.
