Remote Driver information

What is a remote driver?

A remote driver is a professional who operates vehicles from a distance using specialized technology, such as cameras, sensors, and remote-control systems. This role is common in industries where vehicles need to be driven in hazardous environments, during vehicle testing, or for teleoperations in autonomous vehicle fleets. Remote drivers ensure safety and efficiency by controlling the vehicle from a secure location, often using real-time video feeds and advanced communication tools. This job requires strong technical skills, quick decision-making, and a good understanding of vehicle operations.

How do remote drivers communicate and coordinate with their dispatch teams?

Remote drivers usually rely on a combination of specialized software, mobile apps, and real-time communication tools to stay in constant touch with their dispatch teams. This coordination helps drivers receive route updates, handle unexpected issues like traffic or vehicle concerns, and report delivery statuses. Effective communication is key to timely deliveries and customer satisfaction, so remote drivers are often expected to be comfortable with digital tools and proactive in updating their teams. Regular virtual check-ins and clear reporting protocols are standard industry practices to maintain smooth operations.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote driver?

To thrive as a Remote Driver, you need a valid driver's license, strong driving skills, and a good safety record. Familiarity with GPS navigation systems, telematics, and mobile apps for route management is typically required. Excellent time management, communication, and adaptability to changing conditions help set top performers apart. These skills ensure safe, efficient, and reliable service delivery in dynamic, technology-driven environments.

Job description

At International SOS, we are in the business of protecting and saving lives. For 40 years, we have delivered customised security risk management, health, and wellbeing solutions to organisations worldwide. With a presence in 90 countries and a team of nearly 13,000 experts, we provide 24/7 support to help organisations fulfil their Duty of Care responsibilities.

Now, we're looking for talented individuals to join our team and make a difference.

About the role

We are seeking a driven, entrepreneurial sales professional to accelerate new market growth across Canada. This is a pure business development role focused on identifying, pursuing, and securing new clients across key industries. You will build strategic relationships with senior decision-makers, create opportunities from the ground up, and drive revenue growth.

This is a full-time 8:30 am until 4:30 pm Monday to Friday position with flexibility required based on operational needs. This is a remote/hybrid role (depending upon the incumbent's location) based in Alberta with extensive travel.

Key responsibilities
  • Develop and execute strategies to acquire new clients and expand market presence across Canada.
  • Identify, prospect, and engage decision-makers through networking, referrals, industry events, and targeted outreach.
  • Build and maintain a strong pipeline of qualified opportunities.
  • Own the full sales cycle from prospecting through contract execution.
  • Understand client needs, market trends, and competitive dynamics.
  • Develop relationships with executive-level stakeholders within target organizations.
  • Represent International SOS professionally at client meetings and industry events.
  • Achieve and exceed new business and revenue targets.

Primary sectors of focus: Oil & Gas, Energy, Mining, Construction, Infrastructure, Industrial Services, Defence, Government, and other remote workforce industries.

What Success Looks Like

Within the first 12-24 months, you will:

  • Generate significant new business opportunities.
  • Establish executive-level relationships across key industries.
  • Consistently exceed sales targets.
  • Expand our presence in existing and emerging markets.
  • Build a sustainable pipeline that supports long-term growth.

CRM & Pipeline Management

  • Use Salesforce as the primary tool for managing sales activities and customer relationships.
  • Maintain accurate records of opportunities, contacts, meetings, forecasts, and sales activity.
  • Effectively manage opportunities from prospecting through contract award.
About you

Required

  • 10+ years of successful B2B business development or sales experience.
  • Proven track record of acquiring new clients and generating revenue.
  • Experience selling complex or consultative solutions to senior decision-makers.
  • Experience in one or more of:
    • Oil & Gas / Mining / Energy
    • Infrastructure / Industrial Services
    • Defence / Government

Preferred

  • Experience in occupational health, medical services, workforce health, HSE, risk management, emergency response, or consulting services.
  • Existing executive network within Western Canada.
  • University degree.
  • Fluent English communication skills (written and verbal).

Ideal Candidate

  • A proactive hunter who creates opportunities rather than waits for them.
  • Self-motivated, resilient, and results-oriented.
  • Skilled at building relationships and opening new doors.
  • Comfortable engaging senior executives.
  • An effective negotiator and closer.
  • Highly organized with strong pipeline and territory management skills.
  • Willing to travel extensively across your assigned region.
  • In possession of a valid driver's license and clean driving record.

By joining International SOS, you will contribute to a global network dedicated to protecting people and organisations. We offer a dynamic and respectful workplace where expertise, innovation, and collaboration drive our success.
